Job description

Essential Functions/Process Responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Operate transit buses safely on prescribed routes as directed. Conduct pre and post trip vehicle inspections and document on appropriate forms.
  • Collects/records bus fares, and transfers in accordance with GoDurham Transit procedures.
  • Promote exemplary customer service of GoDurham by providing safe, courteous, and dependable service while transporting customers.
  • Input information into computer-based equipment such as Automated Vehicle Locator (AVL) Automatic Passenger Counter (APC), fare-box and destination displays (requires touch key entering) as technology exists.
  • Able to read and interpret maps and complex schedules and provide route and schedule information to transit customers.
  • Assist in the boarding of disable customers who require the aid of accessible vehicles (wheelchairs/scooters) for the purpose of mobility. Involves bending, stooping and twisting while securing belts and straps to ensure the patron and vehicle is tied down in a manner that ensures a safe ride (Ability to push pull wheelchair patrons).
  • Operate two-way bus radio system in accordance with the GoDurham established policies and procedures and the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).
  • Announce major streets, stops and destinations per ADA regulations.
  • Adhere to the uniform application of the Labor Agreement, Performance Code, Safety Procedures and Operational Bulletins.
