Part Time Attorney information

What is a part time attorney?

A part time attorney is a licensed lawyer who works fewer hours than a full-time attorney, often with a flexible schedule. They may handle specific cases, work on a contract basis, or provide legal services to clients while balancing other commitments. Part time attorneys can work for law firms, corporations, government agencies, or as solo practitioners. This arrangement is ideal for those seeking work-life balance or pursuing other interests alongside their legal career.

How do part time attorneys typically balance client expectations with reduced hours?

Part-time attorneys often manage client expectations by clearly communicating their availability and setting realistic timelines for deliverables. They may prioritize tasks, delegate certain responsibilities, and utilize technology to stay organized and responsive. Collaboration with full-time colleagues is common, ensuring that client matters progress smoothly even when the part-time attorney is not in the office. This structure allows for effective workload management while maintaining high-quality legal service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time attorney, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Attorney, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, state bar admission, and strong legal research and writing skills. Familiarity with legal research databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis and case management software is often necessary. Excellent time management, communication, and client-relations skills help maximize productivity in a flexible or reduced-hour schedule. These abilities ensure effective legal representation, compliance with professional standards, and the ability to deliver quality service despite limited hours.

Job description

Caring Transitions (Apple Valley, MN) is seeking a part-time Community Liaison & Business Development Representative to grow our network of referral partners across the South Metro. In this role, you will cultivate relationships, develop new leads, and drive revenue within a defined territory - all while making a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors and their families.
A great fit for experienced professionals ready for a new chapter. This role is ideal for semi-retired individuals with a background in sales or relationship management who value meaningful work and genuine connection - without the demands of full-time hours or heavy travel. Those with prior experience in the senior-care industry who are seeking a flexible, part-time role will find this position especially rewarding.
What you'll do
  • Community outreach - Build partnerships with senior-focused businesses including senior living communities, senior centers, realtors, and estate attorneys. Represent Caring Transitions through branded materials, presentations, events, and social media.
  • Relationship management - Maintain regular contact with existing referral partners and accounts. Attend senior expos and fairs, present educational seminars, and participate in community events to strengthen brand presence.
  • Lead qualification - Prospect new opportunities through phone, email, and in-person outreach. Serve as the point person for your team's lead qualification process and connect clients with our customizable service offerings.

What you'll bring
Required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in sales, marketing, or relationship management - or equivalent experience in a senior-focused industry
  • Familiarity with multiple sales techniques, including cold outreach
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage your own schedule independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and willingness to learn our CRM platform
  • Reliable transportation, smartphone, and comfort driving throughout the territory: Burnsville, Apple Valley, Rosemount, Farmington, Hastings, Cannon Falls, and Northfield
Preferred
  • Prior professional experience working with seniors or in senior-serving industries
  • A natural ability to build trust and rapport with older adults and their families
  • Established relationships with senior focused businesses or resources

About Caring Transitions

Our comprehensive, individualized services include senior relocation, downsizing, decluttering, estate sales (online and in-person), and home cleanouts - all delivered with compassion and a commitment to reducing stress at every step.
Job Type: Part-time (Flexible Day Shift)
Pay: Starting rate of $20.00+ per hour based on experience with performance-based bonus/commission potential, and mileage or vehicle stipend
Benefits: Flexible schedule, 401K
