This position is a viable support to the Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Department of Social Services to help provide quality customer services to internal and external customers. The department is seeking a dedicated team player who wants to be part of a culture of high performers who strive to make contributions to those in need.
What You Do and How You Do It:
You'll be responsible for the smooth flow of financial transactions within our organization. Your duties will include processing accounts payable for a variety of benefit and service programs, using our automated systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency. You'll also handle purchase order processing, invoice verification, and payment requests. Additionally, you'll be responsible for processing benefit replacement checks, researching outstanding checks, submitting proof registers, and issuing checks.
Your role extends to managing Companion Care provider payments, where you'll utilize QuickBooks Pro software and maintain daily communication with case workers. You'll meticulously audit information to guarantee compliance with state and local regulations, budget guidelines, and program policies.
To ensure operational continuity, you'll serve as a backup for processing Foster Care and other program payments using Harmony and Dynamics systems. Your analytical skills will be utilized to interpret financial reports, and you'll efficiently scan documents using our Laserfiche Imaging System. Perform other work as required.
Here's What You Need:
  • High school diploma supplemented with bookkeeping coursework, and related fiscal support experience using business and agency software to include spreadsheets OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer, associated business and agency software including spreadsheets, a calculator, and other office machines.
  • Considerable knowledge of: the application of established bookkeeping and accounting principles and techniques to governmental accounting transactions; and arithmetic. Working knowledge of: state and local government fiscal regulations, policies and procedures; and office accounting methods and procedures.

We're Looking for Ideal Candidates Who Have (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices as well as general office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports and data, as well as maintain detailed fiscal records and files.
  • Excellent computer skills utilizing Microsoft Excel and other software packages are required.
  • Requires excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated skill in handling fast paced and often competing pressures on one's time.
  • Confidentiality and tact.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. A Chesterfield County application is also required and must be submitted online by the deadline.
