Job Overview
We are currently looking for a Paint Line Operator/Loader to join our team in Big Rapids.
Runs the paint line. Maintains stock of raw paint materials and chemicals, references paint schedule and sets up and prepares the line for product runs. Monitors painting process (pre-wash through cure) to ensure complete paint coverage. Troubleshoots problems based on experience with equipment.
Shift Hours: Monday to Friday 130 pm - 10 pm with Overtime 10 pm -12 am and 8 hours on Saturday as required.
Shift Premium: $2 per hour
Major Responsibilities
  • Accesses production schedule to make sure correct parts are on hand. Verifies parts received match schedule.
  • Maintains inventory to ensure paint availability. Uses powered industrial truck (PIT), hand truck or dolly to load/move materials to work area.
  • Programs recipes into paint booths to ensure correct paint coverage for each part. Fills containers with prescribed quantities of paint, chemicals, or other materials; verifies correct paints are placed in hoppers and corresponding booths. Changes out paint/powder as needed.
  • Monitors paint room computer system to verify painting sequence and all other paint functions (wash tank, spray guns, booth set-up, dry off and cure oven). Makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Manually paints parts if quantity is minimal or for special/unique products.
  • Maintains paint area. Cleans spray tanks, hoses, and nozzles, using solvent, brushes, and cloths. Responsible for booth cleaning.
  • Performs all required preventive maintenance.

EDUCATION
  • 8th grade

WORK REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 2 years prior paint experience preferred; knowledge of environmental impact (temperature, humidity) on the painting process and the ability to make changes based on environmental changes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain powered industrial truck certification.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Large machinery and equipment used in work areas. Possibility of cuts, scrapes or bruises.
  • Moderate exposure to dust, noise, solvent, heat, paint, and lubricants. May also be exposed to glue, solvent, heat, paint, fiberglass, and denatured alcohol.
  • Constant mental and visual alertness required to avoid potential serious injury to self and others in all work groups.
  • Eye protection required; hearing protection may be required.
  • Moves and may lift materials and/or products weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more (assistance given with heavier objects).
  • Walks, bends, twists, turns, reaches and lifts while performing functions of position.
  • Standing required for extended periods.
  • Work requires regular repetitive arm and hand movement.
  • May be required to climb stairs and ladders.

Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:
  • Ability to utilize appropriate electronic production system to complete job duties, along with the respective technology tools, e.g. personal computer (PC), tablet, keyboard, mouse, RF gun.
  • Ability to use precision measuring gauges to ensure quality parts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and make equipment adjustments if defects arise.
