Global Paint Engineering - Color Development and Harmony Engineer

Color Development and Harmony Engineer within the Global Paint Engineering department will serve as a primary technical expert responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of automotive paint finishes, from initial development through the program implementation. This role involves qualifying advanced paint color technologies and providing critical engineering support to ensure seamless color harmony across various vehicle components and platforms. By collaborating with core engineering teams, you will oversee the technical qualification process and lead the integration of new colors onto global vehicle programs, ensuring that all colors meet required appearance, quality and functional standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc, Engineering (Chemical pref) OR Chemistry
  • 5+ years' experience working in a manfuacturing environment with Paint manufacturing processes
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Paint materials, Paint processes, and Color development
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team environment and a willingness to assume a technical leadership position in the organization and demonstrate potential advance
  • Strong understanding of basic statistics, statistical process control (SPC), and proficiency with data analysis software such as MS Excel and Minitab
  • Strong communication skills, and ability to organize and present information at all organization levels
  • Able to travel to support manufacturing sites, color harmony teams, and vehicle program launch teams

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $74,300-$124,500.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.


Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

What you'll do:

  • Provide color technical support to core engineering during the development, qualification, and implementation of new programs
  • Act as a key resource in technical matters involving color development and color harmony for all Global Assembly Plants
  • Identify and replicate best practices and new color development and color harmony for all Global Assembly Plants
  • Define Paint shop baseline paint assumptions and specifications to maximize process reliability and color quality
  • Provide training and coaching to technicians, managers, and manufacturing engineers in the organization
  • Capture and disseminate color specifications, guidelines, best practices, must/wants, and lessons learned across platforms to maximize the collective value of individual team's experiences
  • Facilitate the development and release of new materials to advance our SQDCME objectives
  • Support the color complexity reduction initiatives and drive actions to support the color complexity objectives
