About Yuto USA Design Center:

YUTO USA is the packaging design and engineering organization under the YUTO umbrella located in various regions of the continental US. We specialize in packaging design, engineering, and rapid prototyping services for our customers. Our facilities have CNC sample cutting tables, 3D printing and testing equipment.


What youโ€™ll do:

The Packaging Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, engineering, and prototyping of assigned protective packaging and crating development projects to support Yuto customers. This position will be engineering-focused to create precise 3D models and technical schematics for high-value or highly sensitive cargo. This role prioritizes structural analysis, simulation testing, and CAD optimization over physical manufacturing. This will be the primary engineering point of contact for both the customer and internal support teams as you work through the project development cycle.


Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with customers to design custom crates that meet project scope, material, cost, and functional requirements.
  • Collaborate with local and international teams to deliver design and engineering support throughout the project development cycle. This includes engineers, project managers, engineering project managers, production engineers and external suppliers as needed.
  • Create complex, highly precise 3D models and manufacturing blueprints using CAD software like SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD and design files and specifications to satisfy functional and project requirements.
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to simulate drops, vibrations, stack loads, and thermal stresses.
  • Calculate exact weight distribution, center of gravity, and lifting point requirements for heavy or irregularly shaped cargo.
  • Steer customers with respect to design and engineering aspects that integrate functional and manufacturing requirements and cost targets.
  • Produce bills of materials (BOMs), center-of-gravity schematics, and rigorous data sheets for regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate, manage and maintain all project files using the company's project management tool to ensure accurate progress reporting. (i.e., revision level, changes, design costs, etc.)
  • Work closely with customers on various Design of Experiment concepting. (DOE)
  • Assist manufacturing teams to troubleshoot production issues.
  • Attend and participate in various customer meetings.
  • Assist with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory and marketing to ensure project success.
  • Manage multiple projects and duties simultaneously.
  • Work independently as well as on group tasks.
  • Support sales needs and direction.
  • Utilize sampling and testing equipment efficiently and properly.
  • Stay current with software updates, industry standards and technology developments. (i.e., internal training, continuing education, trade shows, conferences, etc.)
  • Follow all internal design rules and ensure quality deliverables.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in mechanical engineering, Packaging Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering or related experience strongly preferred.
  • Must possess 3 to 8 years of experience in parametric 3D modeling and specialized packaging simulation software.
  • Intermediate familiarity with 2D packaging design software such as AutoCAD.
  • Must possess Intermediate experience with military, ASTM, ISTA, or ISO protective packaging and shock/vibration standards and procedures and use those guidelines to interpret test data, reports and results to provide packaging solutions.
  • Strong grasp of statics, dynamics, material strength, and failure mode analysis.
  • Must possess Intermediate knowledge of crating materials, fasteners, and other relevant hardware.
  • Must possess Intermediate knowledge of various packaging materials, including thermoformed plastic parts, protective foam, as well as corrugated structural part design.
  • Must possess Intermediate knowledge of manufacturing processes and with automated production systems.
  • Possess good craftmanship in sample making.
  • Highly organized and self-starter.
  • Flexible mindset for fast paced work environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Intermediate familiarity with TOPS or CAPE palletization software.
  • Intermediate familiarity with ESKO or similar sample making cutting tables.
  • Intermediate familiarity with printing technology.
  • Basic experience working with Asian and international manufacturing.


Desired but not required skills:

  • Experience in lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies
  • Basic experience in presentation creation and delivery.
