Job description

Position Purpose:

A Business Development Specialist (BDS) will be part of an independent core competency and a new department charged with leveraging CROM's long and successful history by identifying new opportunities, developing relationships, and strengthening market position in specific Regions. 


The BDS will be instrumental in proactively shaping the future of our organization by purposeful effort in discovering and exploring markets for opportunities.


The BDS will collaborate with multiple departments to develop best practices, business strategies, and fine tune objectives. The BDS will be measured by the effectiveness of their individual sales, marketing, and business development efforts. To be successful, the BDS will need to understand and embrace the company's direction and focal points to form personal initiatives to facilitate meeting objectives.


Essential Duties and Core Responsibilities:

  1. Sales, Marketing, and Business Development 
    1. Demonstrate to current and potential clients how CROM can add maximum value to their projects while maintaining the CROM characteristics of reliable, trusted, and experienced infrastructure specialists.
    2. Become a trusted and reliable resource for our clients by providing technical assistance in the early stages of project development, including face-to-face meetings and possibly technical presentations.
    3. Provide after-project assessment and support to ensure "we have made good things happen for our clients". 
    4. Attend industry specific conferences to market the CROM brand, expand personal network, find potential parallel sectors, and understand current markets trends. 
    5. Collaborate with the Marketing Team to maximize the visibility of the CROM brand in alignment with our Core Values and Culture.
  1. Networking and Customer Relations
    1. Develop rapport with clients through phone, video, and face-to-face meetings to become an invaluable resource and a value-add to the project development teams.
    2. Develop a vast network of clients by being visible and present to develop deep and long lasting relationships.
    3. Proactively monitor client needs to fine-tune initiatives.
    4. Provide consultation and advice to clients. 
    5. Establish interpersonal business relationships in parallel core competencies.
    6. Seek out and work with parallel core competencies to resolve client's needs when we underperform.
  1. Research 
    1. Develop forward-looking pipeline of client needs of planned projects. As relationships grow, develop pipeline of unplanned projects by understanding needs and applying our specialties. 
    2. Using analytic reporting and our CRM, create a detailed pipeline database with a deep understand of decision makers, timing, and the project development team.
    3. Collect and analyze data on customer demographics, preferences, needs and buying habits to identify potential markets and factors affecting product demand.
    4. Monitor industry statistics to stay ahead of trends.


Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to communicate well in person or through written correspondence.

  • Responsive to inquiries, requests, and demands in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Develop knowledge of principles and methods for sales and marketing the CROM specialties. This includes marketing strategy and tactics and on-site demonstrations to prevent overselling. 
  • Must be able to meet high-pressure deadlines and put in the time needed to meet the company objectives.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related field or at least 10 years of sales and marketing experience preferably in the water/wastewater sector. 
  • Candidate must be comfortable with direct in person sales and marketing.
  • Strong communication skills and IT fluency.
  • Advanced in MS Office suite and CRM.
  • Must work well in high pressure and time sensitive situations while collaborating with other core competencies. 
  • Must be comfortable working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and able to honor our Core Values. 
  • Valid drivers' license and clean driving record.


Working Conditions:

  • Extensive travel and overnight stays.
  • Regular interaction with other departments and core competencies.
  • Long and/or irregular working hours should be expected in order to meet deadlines, secure deals, and attend conferences and networking events.
