Job Summary/Basic Function
The Desk Hopper supports front desk operations across an assigned area of approximately five residential buildings. While primarily stationed at one designated desk, the Desk Hopper is responsible for responding to calls and providing on-site support to other closed desks within the area. Responsibilities may include receiving and issuing packages, assisting with lockout keys, and performing other desk attendant duties as needed to ensure continued service and support.; Desk Hopper shifts may occur during overnight hours (10:30 PM - 10:30 AM) or afternoon hours (2:30 PM - 6:30 PM). The position requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to providing quality customer service to students, vendors, guests, and campus staff.

Coverage of Area Desks (North or South) to support customer service across the desk for such tasks as lock outs or receiving or issuing packages.

Job Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Must fully complete required Desk Trainings.
  2. Providing excellent customer service; performing basic administrative work across the assigned area which oversees multiple desks. Will require movement between buildings when call or needs arise.
  3. Collaborate and communicate with the Desk Manager or Building Supervisors (AC/HC/AHD) of the residence hall to notify them of the needs of residents or if additional support is needed.
  4. Attend all staff in-service/continued training at the request of the department.
  5. Monitor and restock all desk materials as needed to ensure successful desk operations. Communicate with the Desk Managers and Building Supervisors when needed regarding these materials.
  6. Monitor the checkout log to ensure that equipment is properly logged out and returned.
  7. Monitor keys behind the desk that include classroom keys, duty key rings, desk key rings etc.
  8. Document situations where other Desk assistants and students fail to follow policy, and report these issues to Desk Manager, AHDs, and coordinators within the Residence Hall.
  9. Maintain a high level of security at the front desks and on the desk computer- ensure all desk and office doors are locked and keys are put away in a locked space at the end of each shift and system or student information is not left visible or accessible.
  10. Follow and abide by established rules and expectations to successfully operate the desk.
  11. There may be times when you cover a missed shift or be called to help find a cover. If you cover a missed shift, you will be paid for that shift.
  12. The Overnight Desk Manager position is an academic year appointment, and you must be willing to work from early August through the beginning of May of each academic year. Specific dates depend on fall opening dates and spring closing dates.
