About The SEED School of Washington, D.C.
The SEED Foundation ( www.seedfoundation.com ) was created in 1997 to establish college-preparatory urban boarding schools that prepare secondary students both academically and socially, for success in college and beyond. In 1998, the Foundation opened The SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. - the nation's first public college preparatory boarding school. The school currently serves 250 students in grades 9-12. In 2015, 100% of SEED's seniors were accepted to a four-year college or university.
All SEED students live on campus from Sunday evening through Friday afternoon when they return home for the weekend. The dormitories are organized into small "houses" of an average of 15-18 students per resident advisor for afternoon and evening routines such as academic study hall, house meetings, SPARKS and other structured activities. We provide a safe and caring 24-hour boarding experience. Our relationship with parents/guardians is essential to the success of their scholar while at SEED.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Overnight Manager, the Overnight Resident Advisor is responsible for the safety, security, and well-being of residential students during the overnight hours. This critical role involves active monitoring of student houses, conducting regular rounds, responding to student needs and emergencies, and ensuring a calm and restful environment conducive to student health and preparation for the academic day. The Overnight Resident Advisor also performs essential overnight administrative tasks to support the smooth operation of the residential program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular and documented rounds of all student houses and common areas to ensure student safety, security, and adherence to nighttime protocols.
  • Maintain a visible and accessible presence within the residential halls to address immediate student needs, concerns, or requests during the overnight hours.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to any student illnesses, injuries, behavioral issues, or emergencies that may arise during the night, following established protocols and seeking assistance as needed.
  • Monitor student sign-in/sign-out procedures (if any occur overnight) and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Enforce nighttime dorm policies and expectations consistently and fairly, ensuring a quiet and respectful environment that supports student rest.
  • Complete accurate and timely shift reports, including hourly rounds, student interactions, any incidents, and tasks completed.
  • Maintain basic order and safety in common areas during the overnight shift.
  • Assist with overnight administrative tasks, which may include managing dorm signage and decoration, updating attendance reports based on overnight activity, preparing shift handover reports, and other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Monitor and report any maintenance or safety concerns within the residential facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with the day staff regarding any overnight incidents or student needs requiring follow-up.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the overnight operation of the residential program.

Requirements
Qualifications and Essential Competencies
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years experience working with adolescents in a residential, educational, or youth development setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and behavior management techniques.
  • Familiarity with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to serve as a role model and mentor and enforce policies consistently and fairly.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills for report writing, communication, and data management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential.

Other Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and other required clearances.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
  • Willingness to work the overnight shift, including and holidays as needed.
