Job description

LJA INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

Our summer internship program runs from mid-May through the first week of August and is a fully in-person experience, working Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.

Interns are integrated into active project teams and work directly under the supervision of an Assistant Project Manager (APM) or Project Manager (PM), alongside Engineers in Training (EITs). Interns are given early exposure to ongoing projects and gradually assigned meaningful tasks and deliverables with guidance and support from their team.

Throughout the summer, interns participate in structured learning and development opportunities designed to provide broad exposure to the firm and its services. This includes lunch-and-learn sessions across multiple disciplines (such as Land Development, Transportation, Public Works), job site visits, volunteer opportunities, and a formal mentorship program.

At the conclusion of the program, interns deliver a final presentation highlighting their experience, key learnings, and contributions throughout the internship.

POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Civil Engineering Intern at LJA Land Development, you will gain hands-on exposure to real-world civil engineering projects in a collaborative environment.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Supporting engineers with project-related tasks and deliverables
  • Participating in team meetings and learning project workflows
  • Shadowing engineers in both office and field environments
  • Assisting with ongoing civil engineering projects under supervision
  • Engaging in professional development and learning sessions

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates must have completed at least one year of college and pursuing a Bachelor of Science, Civil, Environmental, or other relevant Engineering degree is required.

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

  • Great work-ethic and are a highly motivated student with a strong academic performance
  • Have sincere desire to gain experience in and knowledge of the company and industry
  • Good organizational and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Focused and attention to detail with ability to identify discrepancies
  • Collaborate and work well in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel
