K–12 E-Learning Instructional Design Intern

Another venture currently being developed is an online educational platform for K–12 students. The platform will provide clear, age-appropriate, and engaging learning experiences that help students learn, explore, and grow.

Ahikā Ventures is seeking a K–12 E-Learning Instructional Design Intern to help plan, create, review, and improve educational content for this new platform.

The intern will help transform educational topics and source materials into organized, age-appropriate digital learning experiences.

Depending on project needs and the intern’s experience, assignments may include developing course outlines, organizing lessons, writing learning objectives, creating activities and assessments, reviewing content, and improving the overall student experience.

Interns may use artificial intelligence and other digital tools to support research, brainstorming, drafting, editing, content organization, and quality assurance.

Previous instructional design experience is not required. Assignments will be based on the intern’s current abilities, interests, and professional development goals. Interns will receive guidance, feedback, and opportunities to gradually take on more advanced work.

Because this is an early-stage venture, interns may also gain experience helping shape a new educational platform as it develops.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with the development of online learning experiences for K–12 students.
• Researching educational topics and organizing information into lessons and learning modules.
• Adapting content for specific grade levels, age groups, and learning abilities.
• Writing measurable learning objectives and course outcomes.
• Creating lesson plans, scripts, storyboards, presentations, and instructional materials.
• Developing quizzes, knowledge checks, assignments, activities, and assessments.
• Ensuring lessons and assessments align with the intended learning objectives.
• Reviewing content for accuracy, clarity, grammar, consistency, age appropriateness, and engagement.
• Converting documents, presentations, videos, and other materials into structured online learning content.
• Researching K–12 standards, instructional methods, educational technology, and e-learning best practices.
• Using AI-assisted tools for research, brainstorming, drafting, editing, and content organization.
• Testing lessons from a student’s perspective and documenting recommended improvements.
• Helping make materials accessible to students with different learning needs.
• Assisting with course uploads and content organization within an e-learning platform.
• Participating in virtual meetings, project discussions, demonstrations, and content reviews.
• Collaborating with team members and applying feedback to assigned work.
• Following expectations related to confidentiality, copyright, student privacy, data security, and responsible AI use.

Specific responsibilities may vary based on the intern’s interests, experience, availability, and assigned projects.

The following qualifications are preferred, not required:

• Interest in K–12 education, instructional design, curriculum development, educational technology, or e-learning.
• Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, childcare, student-teaching, or classroom experience.
• Experience creating lessons, presentations, worksheets, training materials, or educational activities.
• Familiarity with K–12 curriculum standards or age-appropriate instructional practices.
• Strong writing, grammar, editing, proofreading, or research skills.
• The ability to explain complex information clearly.
• The ability to organize information logically.
• Familiarity with Google Docs, Google Slides, Microsoft Word, or PowerPoint.
• Experience with Canva or other content-creation tools.
• Familiarity with learning management systems or online educational platforms.
• Exposure to tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, or iSpring.
• Experience using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or other generative AI tools.
• Interest in using artificial intelligence responsibly in education.
• Basic familiarity with digital accessibility principles.
• Creativity, attention to detail, dependability, and openness to feedback.
• The ability to meet deadlines and collaborate in a remote environment.
• An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to learn, experiment, and solve problems.

Applicants do not need experience with every tool or skill listed above. Applicants without a professional portfolio, instructional design background, or previous internship experience may still be considered.

During the internship, participants may have opportunities to:

• Gain practical experience developing online learning experiences for K–12 students.
• Contribute to the early development of a new educational venture.
• Learn the fundamentals of instructional design and online education.
• Practice writing learning objectives, lessons, activities, and assessments.
• Adapt educational materials for different ages and grade levels.
• Learn how educational content progresses from an idea to a completed learning experience.
• Strengthen writing, editing, research, and content-development skills.
• Evaluate educational materials from a student’s perspective.
• Gain exposure to learning management systems and e-learning tools.
• Explore how AI can support instructional design and course development.
• Practice using AI responsibly while maintaining accuracy and human oversight.
• Receive guidance and feedback from team members.
• Build experience with project communication, collaboration, and content review.
• Gain exposure to entrepreneurship, opportunity creation, and early-stage venture development.
• Learn about accessibility, copyright, privacy, confidentiality, and data security.
• Develop work samples that may be discussed professionally, subject to Ahikā Ventures’ confidentiality and intellectual-property requirements.

Participation in the internship does not guarantee future employment with Ahikā Ventures or its affiliated ventures.

This is a remote internship. Interns are expected to:

• Maintain regular communication with their assigned supervisor or team.
• Attend required virtual meetings.
• Complete agreed-upon learning activities and project assignments.
• Follow instructions and meet established deadlines.
• Communicate promptly about questions, challenges, or scheduling conflicts.
• Be receptive to feedback and willing to revise their work.
• Protect confidential company, venture, project, and educational information.
• Use company systems, materials, and AI tools responsibly.
• Follow applicable content-development, security, privacy, and documentation procedures.
