Job Description

BerQ RNG is seeking a Senior Director of Business Operations – Mixed Waste to provide overall operational leadership for our mixed-waste processing facility in Bloomington, California.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced operations professional who combines strong business judgment with hands‑on technical and operational expertise. You will be accountable for the safe, reliable, efficient, and financially responsible operation of the Facility, while leading site operations teams and driving continuous improvement across plant performance.

The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of mixed‑waste processing, anaerobic digestion, biogas/RNG operations, facility infrastructure, maintenance and reliability, capital planning, and operational improvement. You will make informed decisions regarding digester health and performance, feedstock management, plant optimization, maintenance priorities, capital improvements, and overall operational strategy.

As the primary operational leader between the Facility and BerQ RNG's senior management team, you will work closely with the CEO, COO, and leaders across Engineering, Construction, Maintenance & Reliability, Finance, HR, Environmental, Safety, and other corporate functions. You will translate company objectives into practical operational plans, communicate performance and financial results, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure the Facility continues to perform safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Initially, this position will report directly to the CEO and is expected to transition to reporting to the COO as BerQ's organizational structure develops. This role will require the successful candidate to be within a commutable distance from the facility in Bloomington, California.

Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Facility and its on‑site operations teams, establishing operating priorities, P&L responsibilities, performance expectations, and accountability while maintaining a strong field presence.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day Facility operations to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and financially responsible performance, making timely decisions to address operational issues and improve plant performance.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with BerQ RNG's environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including reporting, audits, training, and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership for digester health, feedstock management, and process performance, optimizing gas production, efficiency, reliability, and biological stability.
  • Apply hands‑on mixed‑waste processing expertise to adapt operations to changing feedstock conditions, improve processing efficiency, and troubleshoot complex operational and mechanical issues.
  • Oversee maintenance, reliability, and asset management priorities, working with Maintenance & Reliability and other technical teams to improve equipment reliability, uptime, safety, and operating efficiency.
  • Identify, prioritize, and support capital improvement projects that enhance Facility safety, reliability, capacity, efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Partner with Engineering, Construction, Maintenance & Reliability, and Finance to develop and implement capital projects and ensure successful transition into ongoing operations.
  • Manage the Facility's operating and financial performance, including budgets, capital expenditures, forecasts, and opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining safety, reliability, and production.
  • Provide senior management with clear and timely reporting on operational performance, financial results, risks, opportunities, and key business priorities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing operations organization while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with HR on employee relations, performance management, organizational development, and the consistent application of BerQ RNG policies and operating standards.
  • Translate corporate objectives into actionable operational plans and collaborate across Finance, Engineering, Construction, Maintenance & Reliability, HR, Environmental, Safety, and other corporate functions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, host sites, suppliers, partners, regulators, and other stakeholders while protecting BerQ RNG's operational and financial interests.
  • Communicate complex operational, technical, and financial matters effectively to the CEO, COO, and other senior leaders, identifying risks and opportunities and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Travel periodically to other BerQ RNG operating sites and headquarters as required.

  • Hands‑on experience with mixed‑waste operations is required.
  • Proven experience managing operating sites and leading site‑based operations teams.
  • Demonstrated understanding of anaerobic digestion and digester health, including the impact of feedstock characteristics and operating conditions on biological performance.
