Job description

Job Summary
The Operations Trainer is responsible for delivering, coordinating, and tracking all required training programs for airline ground handling employees, ensuring compliance with airline standards, company policies, regulatory requirements, and safety procedures. This role administers both classroom and Learning Management System (LMS) training, conducts instructor-led sessions, facilitates on-the-job training (OJT), and evaluates employee performance to ensure team members are fully prepared to perform their duties safely, efficiently, and in accordance with airline service standards.
The Operations Trainer partners with Operations, Safety, Human Resources, and airline representatives to maintain training compliance, improve operational performance, and support a culture of safety and continuous learning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Learning Management System (LMS) Administration
  • Administer and manage all required airline and company training through the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Assign required online training courses based on employee role, airline account, and operational requirements.
  • Monitor employee training completion and ensure all certifications remain current.
  • Generate and distribute compliance reports identifying overdue or upcoming training requirements.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical training records in accordance with company and airline requirements.

Classroom & Instructor-Led Training
  • Deliver engaging instructor-led training sessions, orientations, and airline-specific classroom instruction.
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials, presentations, manuals, and job aids.
  • Conduct New Hire Orientation and department-specific operational training.
  • Administer written exams, quizzes, and practical evaluations to validate employee knowledge and competency.
  • Submit attendance records and training completion documentation following each class.

Operational & On-the-Job Training
  • Conduct structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) and complete required competency evaluations.
  • Observe employees performing operational duties and provide coaching to reinforce proper procedures.
  • Ensure employees understand airline service standards, customer service expectations, and operational responsibilities.
  • Verify employees demonstrate proficiency before being released to work independently.
  • Complete and submit all required OJT checklists and qualification documentation.

Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all training complies with airline operating procedures, OSHA requirements, company policies, airport regulations, and customer-specific standards.
  • Reinforce safe work practices and proper use of equipment, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and operational procedures.
  • Conduct recurrent safety training and operational refresher courses.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, training deficiencies, or compliance concerns to management.
  • Support internal audits, airline audits, and regulatory inspections by maintaining complete training documentation.

Operational Support
  • Conduct regular observations within the operation to evaluate employee performance and training effectiveness.
  • Partner with Operations Managers, Supervisors, Safety, Quality Assurance, and Human Resources to identify training needs and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Provide coaching and retraining when operational deficiencies are identified.
  • Assist with the implementation of new airline procedures, policies, equipment, or operational changes.
  • Support operational activities as needed based on business demands and airline requirements.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional communication with employees, management, and airline representatives.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and continuous learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year of aviation ground handling experience in Cabin Services, Wheelchair Services, Passenger Services, Ramp Operations, or related airport operations.
  • Minimum one (1) year of training, coaching, mentoring, or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience facilitating classroom and practical operational training.
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred.
  • Must successfully complete all airline-required training and certifications.
  • Must pass all required pre-employment background screening and drug testing.
