Job description

We are seeking a Controller to become an integral part of our team! This is role is for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and approaches the job with an entrepreneur mindset. As the Controller you provide valuable financial clarity to the organization. You will oversee all financial activities while partnering with operations, ownership and our external CPA with daily execution, insight and shaping long term goals that drive margins, cash flows, and growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Ensures timely completion of the month-end closing process. This includes supporting and working with other team members regarding accounts payable and customer invoicing.
  • Reconciles bank accounts, verifying deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.
  • Create and post general ledger entries for intercompany transactions, bank transactions, and payroll transactions related to benefits, taxes, processing fees, and other deductions.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Assist in the analysis of financial information.
  • Track annual capital expenditure purchases.
  • Support A/P, A/R, and Payroll functions as needed.
  • Monitor the company's financial performance and accurately report monthly financial information.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports and perform financial and operational analysis as directed.
  • Assist external CPA with the filing of tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Oversee and coordinate all financial activities.
  • Standardize and maintain a system of accounting records and techniques.
  • Conduct internal audits to assess financial status.
  • Serve as primary contact for external auditors
  • Maintaining amortization & depreciation schedules & intercompany accounts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of 5 years in progressive accounting roles, including Controller-level responsibility.
  • Trucking industry experience preferred.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP.
  • Strong Excel skills, QuickBooks, and prior knowledge of McLeod TMS-trucking software helpful.
  • Strong leadership qualities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
