Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting position in our program for a Registered Nurse (RN). The RN works to provide Hemodialysis treatment to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team. The RN delivers comprehensive patient and family-centered care to acute and chronic renal patients. The RN practices within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care - North Program (AKC-N) to provide leadership, critical thinking, clinical judgment, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, and preventing illness, injury, and disability to the renal patient. The RN practices nursing care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies and nursing standards. The RN demonstrates a professional demeanor, pursues regular professional development opportunities, and maintains professional designation. The RN assumes unit leadership and charge responsibilities to support all levels of the multidisciplinary team as per the Unit Managers direction. This position is based in the Hemodialysis unit at Grey Nuns Community Hospital.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge of case management, effective time management and organizational skills, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities. Must be able to provide direction to other health care workers. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work independently and in conjunction with other team members. Demonstrate ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workload. Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and communication skills. Must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). Candidates must complete/pass Hemodialysis Training. Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete Hemodialysis Training as per Manager/Educators discretion. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on classroom/instructor availability. The training is an intensive 4-week full-time schedule with an additional 2 weeks of full-time buddy shifts. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to 2 weeks full time buddy shifts. Upon successful completion of the orientation the RN will be able to proceed to the unit-specific orientation - 2 weeks of buddy shifts as assigned by the Unit Manager. Must have a minimum of recent 2 years of acute care experience. Required to attend 1-day mandatory post orientation (3 Months Post) in person for Edmonton zone employees and via zoom for outside of the Edmonton Zone employees.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete Hemodialysis Training as per Manager/Educators discretion. Preference will be given to candidates with recent acute and chronic Hemodialysis, Nephrology nursing experience.
