Job description

Online Learning Success Coach - Florence Jr./Sr. High School
 

Position Summary: The Online Learning Success Coach supports students enrolled in the Fremont RE-2 online learning program through Florence Jr./Sr. High School. This position helps students stay engaged, organized, and on track for successful course completion while supporting communication among students, families, teachers, counselors, administrators, case managers, and other appropriate District staff.

The Online Learning Success Coach provides student check-ins, progress monitoring, family communication, and program coordination. This position helps students understand online learning expectations, course pacing, attendance and participation requirements, communication procedures, and available school supports.

This position does not replace the role of the assigned teacher of record, school counselor, case manager, or building administrator.

Reports To: Florence Jr./Sr. High School Principal or designee
Classification: Classified
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Year: 150-day contract
Work Schedule: 8.5-hour workday; generally four days per week, with occasional Fridays as assigned by the District or building administration



Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong oral and written communication, organization, follow-through, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to monitor student academic progress, attendance, engagement, participation, and course completion.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation, communication logs, and follow-up records.
  • Ability to support students in developing organization, time management, goal-setting, self-advocacy, and independent learning skills.
  • Comfort using computers, online learning platforms, Google Workspace, student information systems, and other District-approved technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle student information in accordance with District policy and applicable laws.
  • Successful completion of all required criminal background checks and fingerprinting.
  • Any other qualifications as determined necessary by the District.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in education, student support, online learning, technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with middle school or high school students, especially in an online, blended, alternative, or credit-recovery setting.
  • Experience supporting students who need additional structure, accountability, academic support, behavioral support, or individualized support.
  • Familiarity with high school graduation requirements, credit completion, MTSS/RTI, IEPs, 504 Plans, accommodations, behavior plans, or other student support systems.
  • Trained in, or willing to be trained in, District-approved crisis prevention/intervention procedures, if required by the District.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a consistent support contact for students enrolled in the Fremont RE-2 online learning program.
  • Help students understand online program expectations, coursework requirements, attendance and participation expectations, deadlines, and communication procedures.
  • Provide regular student check-ins to review progress, identify barriers, encourage participation, and support organization, time management, goal-setting, self-advocacy, and independent learning skills.
  • Monitor student coursework completion, grades, pacing, attendance, login activity, and engagement through the online learning platform and District systems.
  • Identify students who are inactive, behind pace, failing, or at risk of not successfully completing coursework, and communicate concerns to students, parents/guardians, and appropriate staff.
  • Support credit recovery, course completion, and graduation progress efforts in collaboration with the school counselor and administration.
  • Assist with onboarding, orientation, platform navigation, and transitions for students entering or exiting the online learning program.
  • Provide basic online platform support and refer technical issues to appropriate technology staff when needed.
  • Coordinate with teachers, counselors, administrators, case managers, special education staff, technology staff, and other District personnel to support student success.
  • Refer academic, counseling, special education, discipline, safety, mental health, or administrative concerns to the appropriate staff member.
  • Assist with tracking District-issued devices, materials, online program resources, records, rosters, communication logs, progress reports, and program documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and appropriate communication with students and families.
  • Follow District policies, building procedures, and applicable laws related to student records, privacy, mandatory reporting, and use of District systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor that are consistent with the general purpose and classification of the position.

Role Clarification and Student Plans

The Online Learning Success Coach is a student support and program coordination position. This position does not provide direct instruction, assign final grades, make independent course placement decisions, determine graduation eligibility, provide school counseling services, serve as a special education case manager, or make administrative decisions unless specifically authorized by the District.

When supporting students with IEPs, 504 Plans, health plans, behavior plans, or other documented needs, the employee shall work under the direction of the appropriate case manager, counselor, administrator, teacher, or designated staff member. This position may assist with assigned supports, monitor participation, provide general student support, document concerns, and communicate information to appropriate staff. This position does not develop, revise, interpret, or independently determine legally required student plans, accommodations, services, placement, eligibility, or discipline decisions.

Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, this position may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, using a computer for extended periods, communicating by phone, email, video conference, and in person, lifting or carrying materials or technology equipment up to approximately 25 pounds, traveling between District buildings as needed, and working in a school, office, or online support environment.

Salary and Benefits

Salary shall be in accordance with the District-approved salary schedule for this position.

For compensation placement purposes, this position is currently aligned to the SPED Paraprofessional salary schedule. Placement may include consideration of up to five years of verified related experience in accordance with District procedures.

Compensation Range: $18.88 to $20.90 per hour, based on placement on the District-approved salary schedule and verified related experience.
