Position Summary

Reporting to the Director and Principal, the Governmental Accounting Services Manager will lead and develop the team, oversee various client accounting services, ensure projects are completed on time, and strengthen client relationships through effective communication and problem-solving.

 What will you do in this role?

  • Oversee the efforts of multiple client engagements with the ability to manage budget. 
  • Manage key components of multiple audit engagements including strategy, planning, risk assessment, team management, and delivery of exceptional client service. 
  • Provide thoughtful leadership and insightful recommendations surrounding a broad range of complex issues related to business processes and controls by leveraging expertise and experience. 
  • Perform a detailed review of higher-risk areas to ensure technical accuracy and completeness of the audit work, that sufficient and appropriate evidence is obtained, and conclusions are appropriate.  
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key client sponsors. 
  • Responsible for providing resolutions to complex problems based on analysis and working with your team to implement solutions across the organization.  
  • A Manager will actively delegate responsibilities to provide a flexible, ethical, challenging, and engaging work environment to those within the team. 
  • In addition to developing a team through mentoring, coaching, training, and evaluating; a Manager will be expected to develop and monitor project budgets, build strong client rapport, and interview candidates. 
  • Manage preparation and review of monthly account reconciliations for governmental entities, including bank reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and underlying account reconciliations. 
  • Prepare and present financial reports to clients at board meetings on a quarterly or monthly basis.  
  • Conduct on-site visits to evaluate client processes and develop recommendations for process improvements and internal controls 
  • Coordinate and supervise audit preparation engagements for local governments.  
  • Assist with special projects, including policy & procedural updates, guidance on internal controls and other projects as requested by clients.  
  • Coordinate and manage the preparation and accurate filing of annual and quarterly federal and state tax filings, including payroll and vendor tax returns, in a timely manner  

What do you need to succeed in this role?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent work experience 
  • 4+ years of public accounting, consulting, professional services, or outsourced accounting firm experience 
  • 4+ years experience working with prepared financial statements or audits of local governmental entities 
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products  
  • Experience with computerized accounting software and governmental ERP systems including QuickBooks, BS&A, MIP (Abila), MUNIS, MSI and Sage preferred 
  • CPA certification/CPA eligible preferred 
  • Audit or payroll tax experience is a plus

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the base compensation range for this role is Min $106,502.67 – Mid $131,250.37 – Max $153,016.50. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on several factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. Compensation ranges for roles in our Government Services pillar are determined by contract with the specific government agency Sikich is servicing.
