Salary Range
The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $28.00 to $42.00 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.

The Impact You Can Make 

As an Obstetrics Technician (OB Tech) you will assist nursing personnel in the delivery of patient care in the Snuggery Suite, taking into account the patient's special or age-related needs. The OB Technician serves as the scrub technician in Cesarean Sections and selected OB/GYN procedures. This position assumes responsibility for a safe environment and appropriate utilization of resources; directs and performs cleaning, maintenance and processing of instruments and equipment; and restocks and prepares rooms within the Unit. An OB Tech also provides rapid response to patient/family needs and requests.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential (Responsibilities)

  • Restocks/prepares rooms in unit environment (birthing rooms, nursery, OR).

  • Serves as the scrub technician for Cesarean Sections and selected OB/GYN procedures.

  • Handles and counts sponges, sharps and instruments.

  • Assists in the ordering, care, preparation and maintenance of sterile and unsterile supplies and equipment.

  • Reacts appropriately in patient care emergencies.

  • Assists RN in updating physician preference cards.

  • Transports and assists the surgical team with positioning of patients.

  • Maintains integrity of routine and emergency equipment within the Unit.

  • Assists patient with activities of daily living as required to promote hygiene, comfort, nutritional intake, and safety as indicated in plan.

  • Obtains and documents vital signs and measurements: i.e., TPR, BP, pulse oximetry, glucose monitoring, height, weight, oral intake, output, and other measurements as required.

  • Utilizes computer information system according to established standard for position and unit.

What You Bring (Qualifications)

Education/Accredited Programs

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • License Practical Nurse/LPN or completion of OR Technician Program required.
  • Experience in patient care & scrub role preferred.
  • Knowledge of surgical aseptic technique and basic Operating Room procedures and equipment preferred.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: BLS Certification required (can be obtained after hire)

Skills/Abilities

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing with other nursing personnel, patients and physicians.

  • Ability to work effectively with other nursing personnel, patients, physicians, and members of other departments under the direction of a RN.

  • Ability to recognize patient care problems, react appropriately in-patient care emergencies and communicate pertinent information to the responsible RN.

  • Ability to complete basic mathematical calculation.
