Their duties often include preparing delivery rooms, sterilizing equipment, assisting with patient care during childbirth, and supporting the medical team with various tasks. 'Per diem' means they work flexible, non-regular hours, filling in as required rather than on a fixed schedule. This role is essential for ensuring smooth operations in busy maternity wards, especially during staff shortages or high patient volumes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem OB tech?

Familiarity with fetal monitoring systems, sterilization equipment, and electronic health records is often expected. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication help you excel in supporting patients and healthcare staff during labor and delivery. These skills are crucial for ensuring patient safety, smooth workflow, and high-quality care in a fast-paced, variable schedule environment.

What are some common challenges faced by per diem OB techs, and how can they best prepare for a flexible work schedule?
