Responsibilities
  • Performs scrub duties; establishes and maintains sterile field
  • Inspects sterile items for contamination before opening
  • Adheres to electrosurgical safety policy and procedures
  • Performs sponge and sharp counts, initiates corrective actions when counts are incorrect
  • Communicates/documents results of counts according to facility policy
  • Decontaminates instruments according to unit protocols
  • Performs the duties of a scrub nurse during cesarean delivery and tubal ligations; prepares labor rooms, operating rooms, and other areas needed for patient care, and assists with patient and room clean up
  • Performs clerical tasks to assist nursing personnel
  • Assists physicians/midwives with vaginal deliveries, D&Cs, cerclages, and other procedures while maintaining asepsis
  • Assists and performs patient transport when needed
  • Accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records
  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values
  • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality
  • Assists with orientation of new employees as assigned
  • Requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics when: moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety and moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions
  • Supports the nursing process through: data collection, provision of patient care and implementation of nursing interventions for patients and families as directed by the RN
  • Acts as Phlebotomist
  • Provides direct patient care according to unit specific competencies: monitors medications administered from the sterile field and responds appropriately to emergency patient situations, performs skilled procedures and can state the purpose, rationale, precautions and observations related to that procedure, communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with peers, physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone, responds to overhead pages, notifies the Charge Nurse when leaving the unit, and maintains accurate and complete records by completing unit education card and completing in-service attendance sheet and updating Surgeon Preference Cards
  • Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict
  • Cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit
  • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
  • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: Neonate, Adolescent, and Reproductive Age
  • Utilizes the principles of aseptic practice and initiates corrective action when breaks occur
  • Uses technically advanced equipment
  • Participates in evaluation of new products
  • Maintains appropriate supplies for procedural needs
  • Provides appropriate care to specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or equivalent Required
  • Experience Preferred
  • 1 year PRN eligibility must have one year of experience in an Required OR
  • Delivery room or completion of a scrub tech training course Required
  • ABLS - Advanced Burn Life Support Upon Hire Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
