Come join the Food & Nutrition team at Mercy Medical Center, part of Trinity Health Of New England! We are a member of the nationwide Trinity Health family, bringing compassionate care to our communities.


Position Purpose:

The Nutrition Assistant provides accurate timely information to service and production areas of department regarding the appropriate meals, between meal nourishments and special formulas required by each individual patient. Integrates knowledge of modified diet, food service systems and individual patient needs and requests in preparation of patient menus. Generates various production reports to ensure a high level of patient satisfaction, compliance with physician's orders and accurate food production.

What you will do:

  • Maintains patient dietary files in the hospital IS and dietary computer system.

  • Assists patients with menu choices in order to be in compliance with physician order.

  • Processes and reviews Smart Substitution.

  • Performs bedside menu entry for patients on assigned units.

  • Generates production tally reports for meals.

  • Generates nourishment/tube feeding list and labels.

  • Generates and organizes tray tickets.

  • Processes out-patient meals.

  • Processes Celebration meals.

  • Takes appropriate action with error messages from dietary computer system interface.

  • Maintains necessary back-up reports and tray ticket in case of downtime.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires working in a normal patient care area or office environment where there are relatively few physical discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like.

  • May require sitting in front of a computer for prolonged periods of time.

  • Repetitive tasks and eyestrain may be encountered.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)

  • Previous related experience is preferred.

  • No certification, registration or licensure required.

  • Work requires the analytical ability to gather and interpret data in situations where the information or problems are not overly difficult or complex.

  • Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters, patients and greet visitors, explain Hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or Hospital colleagues.

  • Work requires ability to work with windows based dietary software.

Pay Range: $17.50- $23.80 hr.

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
