Job description

ABOUT THE POSITION The Clark County Building Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Supervising Building Permit Specialist position. This position plays a vital role in supporting the development of a community that processes tens of thousands of permits annually and supports billions of dollars in construction activity within Clark County. As a supervisor within the department's permit operations, this position leads a team responsible for the front-line coordination of the building permit process, ensuring that permit applications are received, reviewed, and processed efficiently while providing exceptional customer service to contractors, developers, and members of the public.

Your leadership will help ensure that the structures built throughout Clark County meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and service to the community. PLEASE NOTE: The Clark County Building Department supports employee development by providing training and covering approved, job-related certification and examination costs, including ICC certifications required for successful performance of the position and career advancement, in accordance with County policy. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Russell Road, Las Vegas NV, 89118, is dedicated to providing construction and development customers with state-of-the-art permit management, plan review and inspections services for residential and commercial construction. The Building Department is responsible for ensuring public safety through the effective enforcement of development and construction standards which include issuance of permits, plan reviews, inspection services for conformity to the State of Nevada and the adopted Model Codes. College level training in pre-engineering or construction technology is desirable

Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Provides supervision, training and work review to a work unit; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work. Provides input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary and other personnel matters; may sign evaluation forms and counsel employees as required.

Provides information regarding building permitting and basic plan review processes and procedures to developers, contractors, property owners and the public at a service counter or over the telephone. Receives plans and other building documents for review; performs preliminary plan review for content and to ensure that they are complete and contain required information for submittal and review; coordinates the tracking of plan checking by other departments and agencies. Coordinates plan review with other departments and agencies; ensures that all required permits and documentation is received prior to permit issuance.

Performs difficult, complex technical and/or specialized office support work, which may require the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills and a knowledge of detailed or specialized activities related to the Building and Safety department. Uses a computer to enter plan submittal data and develop and manage databases and/or spreadsheet files and report formats. Researches and assembles information from a variety of sources for the completion of forms or the preparation of reports regarding the building permit process.

Organizes, maintains and purges various departmental files; develops indexing systems; photocopies and microfilms information as required. Routes plans to required departments and agencies for review; tracks review status. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.

Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
