Our Hospital Medicine Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) work collaboratively with physicians, consultants, nurses, case managers, and rehabilitation teams to deliver high-quality, efficient care to hospitalized patients. In this role, the NP/PA will round in the morning, provide cross-coverage for admissions throughout the shift, and, at times, serve as a first responder for rapid response assessments. This is an excellent opportunity to practice at the top of your license in a collegial, supportive environment with a high degree of autonomy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial patient evaluations, including history, medication reconciliation, physical exam, diagnostic review, and documentation of H&P with admission orders

  • Monitor patient progress and coordinate care plans with attending physicians and interdisciplinary teams

  • Document ongoing care through progress notes

  • Perform procedures in accordance with clinical privileges

  • Manage discharges, including medication reconciliation and coordination of follow-up care to support safe transitions

  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, procedures, and post-discharge care

  • Triage and facilitate patient transfers from the CDH Emergency Department, outside hospitals, and outpatient settings

  • Communicate with accepting providers to ensure seamless transitions of care

We are seeking a part-time (20-hour) NP or PA to join our Hospital Medicine team at the Cooley Dickinson Main Campus (30 Locust St, Northampton, MA). This is a day shift position (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) with shared weekend and holiday coverage.

Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.

  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.

  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.

  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.

  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.

  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.

  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
