Job description


We are looking for a talented School to Work - Engineering (Student) to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Ensure Reliable Data Acquisition: Maintain and troubleshoot systems like Cyflex, Calterm, and Indicom, to help guarantee accurate and uninterrupted data flow for testing and analysis.
  • Maintain Sensor Accuracy: Calibrate and verify sensors and instruments to ensure that engineering teams receive trustworthy data for decision-making.
  • Support Engine Testing Operations: Directly enable critical testing procedures in and around test cells through mechanical tasks such as engine installation and removal.
  • Optimize Test Cell Equipment: Configure and maintain test cell setups ensuring smooth operations and minimizing downtime.
  • Monitor Emissions and Performance Metrics: Track emissions and exhaust data essential for regulatory and performance evaluations using operating systems such as AVL, Horiba and FTIR.
  • Track Particulate Matter and Efficiency: Use PM measurement tools and fluid flow meters, to assess engine efficiency and environmental impact.
  • Deliver Actionable Data to Engineers: Support engineering teams in validating designs and improving product performance with accurate data collection and delivery.
  • Collaborate to Meet Testing Goals: Work closely with engineers and help align testing activities with development timelines, contributing to successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems (Cyflex, Calterm, Indicom) and emissions tools (AVL, Horiba, CAI, FTIR) to ensure accurate setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to perform engine installations, removals, and test cell configurations with precision and safety, supporting smooth test operations.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to monitor and collect data from various instruments (PM measurement tools, load cells, fluid flow meters) with accuracy, ensuring reliable inputs for engineering analysis.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with engineering teams to understand test objectives, share findings clearly, and contribute to timely project execution.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Ability to use available tools and resources to resolve issues in instrumentation, mechanical setup, or data anomalies efficiently.

Education/Experience
  • Must be 16 years of age, in high school or post-secondary school.
  • No GPA Requirement.
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Cyber Security.
  • This is a part-time position, limited to 19 hours per week, which is designed to support your school schedule.
