They work closely with sales teams and clients to understand business requirements, design network architectures, and demonstrate product capabilities. Their role often includes giving technical presentations, answering client questions, and ensuring successful deployment of networking products and services. Network Sales Engineers bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders during the sales process.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a network sales engineer?

To thrive as a Network Sales Engineer, you need a solid understanding of network infrastructure, sales strategies, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. We are seeking an experienced Sales Engineer with a strong background in electronic security systems, including access control and CCTV. This is a technical, customer facing role for someone who can take a project from the initial opportunity through system design, estimating, and sales support.

The right person will be comfortable working directly with customers, conducting site walks, identifying system requirements, developing solutions, and supporting the sales team with the technical expertise needed to win and deliver projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site walks to evaluate existing conditions, understand customer requirements, and identify project scope

  • Design access control and CCTV solutions based on customer needs, site conditions, and project requirements

  • Prepare estimates, takeoffs, bills of material, and project pricing

  • Develop system designs, layouts, and technical scopes of work

  • Work directly with customers to understand operational needs and recommend appropriate solutions

  • Support the sales team throughout the sales process by providing technical expertise and participating in customer meetings and presentations

  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents

  • Assist with RFP and proposal responses

  • Coordinate with manufacturers, distributors, subcontractors, and internal teams as needed

  • Identify project risks, scope gaps, and technical challenges before projects are awarded

  • Help ensure proposed solutions can be effectively handed off to project management and field operations

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Estimator, Systems Designer, or similar technical role within electronic security

  • Strong knowledge of access control and CCTV systems

  • Experience conducting site surveys and site walks

  • Ability to develop system designs and translate customer requirements into practical security solutions

  • Experience with estimating, takeoffs, material selection, and project pricing

  • Comfortable working directly with customers and supporting a sales team

  • Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical solutions to both technical and nontechnical audiences

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities

This role is ideal for someone who understands both the technical and commercial sides of electronic security. You should be able to walk into a customer site, understand the problem, develop the solution, build the estimate, and work alongside sales to help win the project.
