Description

What You'll Do:

The Senior Network Engineer will design, implement, secure, and sustain the network infrastructure supporting Navy Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training systems. The selected candidate will maintain complex enterprise and tactical networks that enable distributed simulation environments, real-time data exchange, and large-scale combat training exercises involving Navy, Joint, and coalition participants.

This position will be based at the NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach, VA. For candidates interested in relocating to Lexington Park, MD, the position may also be based there. 


Key Responsibilities:   

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise and tactical network architectures. 
  • Support classified and unclassified training networks. 
  • Configure routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and network management systems. 
  • Maintain network availability and performance across geographically dispersed training locations. 
  • Support connectivity between live platforms, simulators, command centers, and remote training participants. 
  • Implement boundary defense solutions and network segmentation. 
  • Maintain firewall rules and access controls. 
  • Support cybersecurity audits, vulnerability remediation, and RMF compliance. 
  • Monitor network traffic for anomalies and security incidents. 
  • Serve as a technical lead during major fleet and coalition training events. 
  • Monitor network health throughout exercises. 
  • Rapidly resolve connectivity issues affecting training realism and operational objectives.  
  • This position may require up to 25% annual travel.

 This description outlines the general nature and scope of the role. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. 

Requirements

What You'll Bring:  

  • 9 years of progressively responsible experience designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise and tactical network infrastructures. A bachelor's degree in a STEM related area of study may be considered in lieu of the full 9 years of experience.  
  • Demonstrated experience configuring and supporting enterprise network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and network management systems in classified and unclassified environments. 
  • Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting secure network architectures supporting geographically dispersed operations, distributed users, and mission-critical systems. 
  • Experience implementing boundary defense solutions, network segmentation, access controls, and cybersecurity best practices in accordance with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements. 
  • Experience monitoring network performance, analyzing network traffic, resolving complex connectivity issues, and supporting vulnerability remediation to ensure high availability and operational readiness. 
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), Navy, or NAVAIR networks, including providing technical leadership during operational exercises, training events, or other mission-critical activities. 

Certification Requirements: 

  • Required for this position: CCNP Enterprise, Security, or Data Center, and an operating system certification (Linux+ preferred). In addition, one of the following industry certifications is required: SecurityX/CASP+, CCNA, CCSP, GCED, GCIA, GCLD, GDSA, GFACT.
  • A master's degree or Ph.D. in Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems or Information Technology, or Software Engineering may be considered in lieu of one of the listed certifications, however one of the listed CCNP certifications will still be required.

Salary Range:
