Job description

In this position... 
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated In-Vehicle Network Engineer working with CAN and Ethernet networks. This role is crucial for enabling the evolution of our next-generation vehicle architecture. In this hands-on role, you will help define and release core communication building blocks for our in-vehicle network. You will help in understanding requirements and reviewing software that is built against them; diagnosing network issues; developing innovative ways to simplify network configurations; and shaping how the network will evolve for future vehicle programs. Your expertise will be key as you work closely with hardware/software architects, feature owners, and platform experts to transform strategic designs into implementable network artifacts that will drive our platforms forward. 
There will be 2 roles available, the first with a focus on Ethernet, the second will have a focus on CAN Networking.

You'll have...

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 2+ years of work experience in software engineering, with a focus on embedded systems
  • 2+ years of experience in distributed systems (Automotive, Defense, Industry, IoT, IT, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience applying knowledge of network architecture, protocols, and communication standards with an emphasis on Ethernet.
  • 2+ years of experience in Network Analysis and Simulation tools.

Even better, you may have...

  • Master's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge and application of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and/or CAN signaling principles in automotive networking
  • Skilled in Test-Driven Development (TDD) with Gherkin for writing clear, concise, and executable specifications
  • 3+ years of work experience with one or more automotive embedded Oses
  • 1+ years of experience in E2E protection; Network Management
  • 1+ years of experience in automotive Ethernet software components
  • 1+ years of experience in developing tools and scripts for CAN and Ethernet; DBC and/or ARXML formats
  • 1+ years of experience in using LLMs / AI

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $85,400-$143,200.     
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

  • Through formal Ford processes, ensure that downstream development teams are tracking to deliver software from their network stacks based on our requirements.
  • Develop and deliver network requirements that seek to enhance the underlying operation of in-vehicle networks.
  • Help to debug anomalies that arise due to network software errors or non-compliance with Ford standards.
  • Design and maintain scripts and tools that help to make the delivery of network artifacts more efficient.
  • Work with Design & Release Engineers from various vehicle programs to facilitate the delivery of software from suppliers.
  • Collaborate with network stack suppliers to make sure ECU software complies with their requirements.
