Job Description

The Multimedia Communications Design Specialist will work out of the AECOM office in Columbus, OH.This media design specialist develops innovative communications products that enhance public engagement, support technical project delivery, and strengthen client communications across a variety of digital platforms. Working collaboratively with graphic designers, engineers, planners, public involvement specialists, GIS professionals, and project managers, this position transforms complex technical information into engaging, accessible, and visually compelling digital experiences.

  • Responsibilities include creating animated presentations, motion graphics, website graphics, digital newsletters, email campaigns, social media content, interactive communication materials, and multimedia assets that support engineering, transportation, planning, and public outreach initiatives.
  • This role plays a key part in developing communication products that help agencies explain transportation projects, visualize technical concepts, support public meetings, deliver online training, communicate project updates, and improve stakeholder engagement through digital-first communication strategies.
  • The Multimedia Communications Design Specialist serves as the team's subject matter resource for multimedia production, digital communication technologies, motion graphics, and emerging communication platforms. By identifying new tools, production techniques, and digital communication strategies, this position expands the team's ability to deliver engaging, innovative, and accessible communication products while supporting the evolving needs of clients and the communities they serve.

Digital Content Development

  • Design digital communication materials for web, email, presentations, social media, and interactive platforms.
  • Develop branded graphics for websites, newsletters, email campaigns, client portals, and digital outreach initiatives.
  • Adapt print and presentation materials for digital-first communication channels.

Motion Graphics & Animation

  • Produce motion graphics, animated diagrams, and multimedia presentations to communicate technical information and project updates.
  • Develop simple animations illustrating transportation concepts, roadway improvements, project phasing, traffic operations, and public engagement materials.
  • Convert presentation content into video-based training materials and digital learning resources.

Multimedia Production

  • Create and edit multimedia assets including narrated presentations, animated infographics, short-form videos, captioned content, and translated media.
  • Integrate graphics, voiceover, subtitles, and multilingual content into accessible digital communications.

Digital Platforms

  • Develop graphics and digital assets for websites, email marketing platforms, social media, and online communication campaigns.
  • Support content updates for web pages, client portals, and digital outreach initiatives.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Ability to pass MVR check + traditional background screening process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in multimedia, graphic design, communications, digital media, or a related field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience developing multimedia, digital, social, or visual communications content, preferably in a technical or regulated environment
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects; experience with Canva, Hootsuite or similar tools for creating and managing digital assets
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience with static design, motion/video work, social media assets, and other multimedia communications products
  • Strong foundation in visual design fundamentals: typography, composition, color theory, layout, visual hierarchy, and accessibility
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms, including LinkedIn, X, and YouTube with experience developing, scheduling, and evaluating content
  • Experience with web content, analytics, media monitoring, and reporting tools preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail, accuracy, formatting, and brand consistency
  • Strong organization and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and stakeholder feedback
