Millwork Remote information

What is millwork remote?

Millwork remote refers to professionals who design, draft, or manage millwork projects (custom woodwork like cabinetry, moldings, doors, and panels) while working from a remote location. These roles often involve using CAD software for drafting, communicating with clients and manufacturers, and coordinating projects online. Remote millwork specialists may collaborate with architects, builders, or interior designers to ensure custom woodwork meets specifications and quality standards, all without being physically present at the job site.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a millwork remote professional?

To excel as a Millwork Remote professional, you need expertise in millwork design, construction techniques, and project management, often supported by experience in carpentry or architectural drafting. Familiarity with CAD software (such as AutoCAD or SketchUp), estimating tools, and digital collaboration platforms is typically required. Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills help ensure precise project execution and effective remote teamwork. These competencies are crucial for delivering accurate, high-quality millwork solutions while coordinating seamlessly with clients and teams from a distance.

What are the unique challenges of working remotely in a millwork design or project management role?

Working remotely in a millwork role often means collaborating closely with architects, builders, and fabrication teams through digital tools rather than in-person site visits. One major challenge is maintaining clear communication about technical specifications and design changes, which can be more complex without direct, hands-on access to materials or production environments. To overcome this, remote millwork professionals typically rely on detailed CAD drawings, high-quality video conferencing, and frequent updates to ensure projects stay on track. Building strong relationships with on-site teams and being proactive in addressing potential issues are key to success.

What is the difference between Millwork Remote vs Carpenter?

AspectMillwork RemoteCarpenter

Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, focusing on design, planning, and project coordinationOn-site, working directly on construction sites or workshops
Industry UsageUsed in architectural design, project planning, and manufacturing of custom woodworkHands-on construction, framing, and installation of wood structures

You will translate high-level architectural designs into robust, manufacturable solutions while overseeing the work of junior drafting staff. This role requires a master-level understanding of Autodesk Inventor and the ability to solve intricate engineering challenges before they reach the production floor.

-Mentorship: Supervise and develop entry-level drafters, providing technical guidance, reviewing their Inventor models, and ensuring they understand project requirements.

-Advanced Modeling: Create sophisticated 3D models and assemblies in Autodesk Inventor, ensuring full integration of wood, metal, glass, and electrical components.

-Architectural Liaison: Interpret and deconstruct complex architectural drawing sets, identifying potential conflicts and providing value-engineering solutions.

-Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Project Managers and Shop Leads to ensure designs are optimized for budget, schedule, and facility capabilities.

Qualifications & Requirements

-Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in millwork design, cabinetry engineering, or store fixture manufacturing.

-Technical Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.

-Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of wood construction, joinery, veneer application, and the integration of diverse materials.

-Leadership: Proven ability to listen, mentor, and effectively communicate technical concepts to junior staff and non-technical stakeholders.

-On-site Presence: Must be available to work on-site at our Big Lake facility to support the production team and mentor staff in person.

-Hybrid/Remote: Possible for the right candidate.

Preferred Skills

-High proficiency with Woodwork for Inventor (W4I).

-Experience managing data and lifecycles within Autodesk Vault.

-Ability to write or utilize iLogic or Python scripts for workflow automation.

-Strong background in CNC manufacturing processes and limitations.

Benefits & Growth:

At Paragon, our Senior Designers are the backbone of our technical operations. We offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and the opportunity to work on some of the most recognizable retail spaces in the world.
