BASIC FUNCTION:

The Improvement Facilitator is responsible for leading the Rolling Mill improvement of the Rolling Mill with focus on process and metallurgical support for SBQ bar production. This defines and optimizes rolling mill process routes and practices, investigates and eliminates root causes of process and product non-conformances, and provides technical guidance to operations, support sales, and customers to drive quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.

NATURE & SCOPE:

This job is primarily accountable to facilitate resolutions for the ECR / PPAP/ IMDS process. The incumbent will assist in determining and eliminating the root cause of non-conformance that are found at the division and/or with the customer.

This position is accountable for process capability improvements, support internal stakeholders, customer technical liaison for rolled products. The Improvement Facilitator IV balances people, equipment, and material constraints to meet quality targets while controlling cost and schedule. Typical challenges include improving safety, stabilizing process improvement, quality, cost across product families and scaling process changes from trials to production

This job reports to the Rolling Mill Superintendent

This job has several challenges such as combining the efforts of people, equipment and material in order to meet quality goals and standards, while controlling costs within the established guidelines. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Four-year college degree, preferably in a mechanical or metallurgical engineering or steelmaking knowledge proven through metallurgical experience and a desire to obtain a technical degree.

10+ Years of experience with Industrial Steel Operations (Rolling Mill and Downstream Steel preferred).

The incumbent should possess intermediate computer literacy.

The incumbent should possess experience with data acquisition and analytics.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Responsible for identifying and solving rolling mill process problems.
  2. Optimize rolling mill process parameters
  3. Develop process capability metrics
  4. Support continuous improvement projects
  5. Perform as customer technical liaison.
  6. Dispositions of product placed on hold for quality issues or concerns.
  7. Validate and Review process capabilities.
  8. Determine Process Routing for Products
  9. Assist in Resolving Customer Claims as required to support supply chain.
  10. APQP/PPAP/FMEA and CP inputs and reviews
  11. Support the Quality system in audits and customer specific requirements.
  12. Assist in determining and eliminating the root cause of nonconformance's that are found at the division and/or with the customer.
  13. Support GSN Technical Services and Sales to develop new product applications.
  14. When needed, assumes the duties of the Rolling Mill Superintendent in meetings and other responsibilities.
  15. Responsible for following department rules for safety, discipline, and work procedures within corporate management and quality guidelines.
  16. Responsible for following the Cardinal Safety Rules.
  17. Responsible for completing all required annual safety and environmental training on a monthly basis.
  18. Employee is expected to know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.
  19. Responsible for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in cleanup of material spills if required in the testing lab or on the production floor.
  20. Develop working knowledge and process capabilities of other GSN production facilities. Develop working relationships with key technical and operating personnel in GSN.
  21. Exhibit high motivation to manage work and be able to prioritize responsibilities as required. Enjoy working in a team setting collaborating with other to achieve positive results.
  22. Possess excellent communication ability both written and oral.
