Mid Level Remote Software Developer information

What are some common challenges faced by mid-level remote software developers, and how can they be addressed?

Mid-level remote software developers often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with distributed teams, managing their time independently, and staying aligned with project goals without in-person supervision. To address these, it's important to proactively participate in virtual meetings, use collaboration tools like Slack or Jira, and set clear daily or weekly work objectives. Regular check-ins with team members and seeking feedback can also help ensure that you remain connected and productive, fostering both personal growth and project success.

What is a Mid Level Remote Software Developer?

A Mid Level Remote Software Developer is a software engineer with several years of experience (typically 2-5 years) who works from a location outside of a traditional office environment, often from home. They are responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software applications, collaborating with team members through digital communication tools. Mid level developers are expected to work independently on moderately complex tasks, contribute to code reviews, and assist junior developers. Remote roles require strong time management and communication skills to ensure productivity and effective teamwork.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Level Remote Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Level Remote Software Developer, you need proficiency in programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), experience with software development methodologies, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or Azure), and collaborative tools such as Jira or Slack is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective written communication help you excel, especially in a remote environment. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering high-quality software, collaborating efficiently with distributed teams, and adapting to evolving project requirements.

What is the difference between Mid Level Remote Software Developer vs Junior Remote Software Developer?

Job description

Together we fight for everyone's opportunity for a better financial future.

We will do this together - with customers, partners and colleagues. We will fight for others, not against: We will stand up for and champion everyone's access to opportunities. The status quo is not good enough ... we believe every individual and every community deserves access to financial opportunities. We are determined to support both individuals and communities in reaching a better financial future. We know that reaching this future depends on our actions today.

We believe that our employees own our culture and have a responsibility to foster an environment where we all feel comfortable bringing our whole selves to work. Purposefully bringing our differences together to positively influence our culture, serve our clients and enrich our communities is essential to our vision.

Duties: Develop and maintain Voya's website, managing customer interactions, and ensuring seamless integration of various systems. Lead technical discussions and troubleshoot issues related to Drupal, Azure, c# and other platforms. Collaborate with different teams to ensure the successful implementation of projects. Serve as a critical developer for Voya's websites, along with all integrations around it, capable of front-end development (UX, CSS, and mobile) and back-end development (API, ETL, database). Provide feasibility analysis on potential projects. Build and maintain systems based on applications architectures to improve business processes and in alignment or support of critical business strategies. Assess the business and organizational implications of key application technology alternatives for wide-impact initiatives to recommend appropriate strategic action. Facilitate continued process improvements within the team. Determine organizational impact of software maintenance issues and develop an overall strategy to address them. Integrate activities with business units and collaborate to ensure project costs and schedules are properly estimated and controlled. Telecommuting permitted.

Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or foreign equivalent and five (5) years of experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer, or related position.

Experience must include: Advanced experience with the latest .NET framework (C#) or Drupal CMS; Proven ability to manage complex integrations with external vendors, enterprise APIs, and platforms including Salesforce; Experience managing scalable cloud environments and infrastructure automation; Working with automated testing frameworks including Behat, PHPUnit, and functional testing, with ability to maintain comprehensive test suites; Implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools including Travis CI or GitHub Actions; Expertise in backend optimization, performance tuning, and automation using Varnish, Memcached, Solr, and shell scripting; and Writing scripts for deployment automation, asset management, and backend process efficiency.
