Essential Job Duties
NC State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, and student-centered leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Member Services and Student Employment. We are looking for a collaborative, proven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and is passionate about student success. The ideal candidate will empower both student and professional staff to cultivate world-class wellness and recreation programs, services, and facilities that enrich the student experience inside and outside the classroom.

The Assistant Director provides strategic leadership and management for Wellness and Recreation member services, point-of-sale (POS) and facility access software, and the department-wide student employment program. Additionally, the candidate will identify and develop alternative revenue streams while adding value to the student experience through special events and programming.

Specific responsibilities include:

Staff Supervision and Human Resource Management 
  • Direct Supervision: Provide strategic leadership, supervision, and
  • performance management for the Coordinator of Member Services and the Student Employment Specialist.
  • Indirect Supervision: Indirectly oversee approximately 120 student staff, ensuring the team delivers the highest level of customer service to students and members.
  • Department-Wide Student Employment: Manage the comprehensive student employment program (recruitment, hiring, onboarding, orientation, and training) for a department that employs approximately 650 student staff annually.
  • Process Optimization: Evaluate current HR workflows to identify efficiencies, develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and maintain comprehensive training materials for the department.
  • Payroll & Timekeeping: Oversee complex department-wide timekeeping and payroll processes to ensure data integrity and strict deadline compliance.
  • Student Recognition: Spearhead comprehensive student staff appreciation initiatives, including Student Employee Appreciation Week and university Wellness Days; plan, produce, and host the annual end-of-year awards ceremony for over 250 attendees to celebrate student staff achievements.

Membership Growth and Marketing 
  • Membership Management: Drive the strategic growth, forecasting, and optimization of Wellness and Recreation Member Services, directly overseeing annual membership and auxiliary revenues exceeding $900k.
  • Growth & Retention: Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive recruitment and retention strategies; establish continuous sales pipelines for alumni, faculty, staff, and external community segments.
  • Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with Centennial Campus affiliates and organize special events to boost member satisfaction.
  • Marketing & Promotions: Develop high-impact marketing materials, targeted digital promotions, programmatic tours, and data-backed incentives to maximize conversion rates for prospective members.
Revenue Generation and Partnerships 
  • Auxiliary Revenue Streams: Identify and cultivate alternate revenue streams, including the conceptualization and execution of specialized member events, paid programming, and creative retail or facility rentals.
  • Corporate Partnerships: Assist with the design and execution of strategic marketing partnership/sponsorship programs; collaborate with external partners to maximize marketing packages and fundraising opportunities.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage the specific and direct fiscal budgets for Member Services, the student staff training program, and the student professional development fund.
Strategic Leadership and Systems Administration 
  • Leadership: Provide leadership and direction for Wellness and Recreation member services, point of sale and facility access software and student employment program by implementing goals, expectations and processes for programs and revenues.
  • Systems Administration: Provide strategic direction for the maintenance, upkeep, configuration, communication, and design of InnoSoft Fusion (the department's POS and facility access software) and FusionGO (the department's mobile application for program registration and facility access).
  • Compliance: Ensure all operations adhere to University, State, and Federal regulations, as well as specific departmental or governing body requirements.
  • Committee Leadership: Lead the Wellness and Recreation student training and development work team, as well as the Fusion department work team.
  • Data-Driven Evaluation: Serve on the Wellness and Recreation assessment work team; design satisfaction surveys, evaluate program efforts, and develop data-driven recommendations to implement new programs.
  • General Support: Assist as needed with all required departmental functions and university-wide initiatives.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, recreation or a related field plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience.

  • Proactive and Independent: Proven ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative, critical thinking, and creativity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Master's degree in higher education administration, recreation or a related field.
  • Experience: 2+ years of professional experience leading collegiate recreation member services or student staff training programs.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading teams and managing professional staff.
