Position Summary
The Office of Education, within theDepartment of Internal Medicine, is seeking an experienced and highlymotivated person to oversee and manage the administrative and daily operationsof the Office of Education in a very busy work environment. The Medical Education Program Manager isdirectly responsible for the oversight of the Internal Medicine Residency andClerkship programs, and must also act as an advisor to 11 Internal MedicineFellowship Programs. This person will beunder the general supervision of the Vice-Chair of Education, with the primarygoal of ensuring that all administrative requirements of the residency programand the clerkship are met.
Primary duties are:
  • Supervise theadministrative personnel within the office, including work allocation,training, performance evaluation, enforcement of internal procedures andcontrols, and problem resolution
  • Manage the fundingof the office: developing annualbudgets, tracking, approving and monitoring budget expenditures, and providingreports as needed
  • Develop andimplement systems and processes to maintain records for the office and ensurethat all reporting to accrediting agencies is accomplished
  • Work with the facultyoversight committees of the educational programs to implement any requiredchanges in the program, assisting in the development of processes to meetrequirements
  • Plan and monitorworkflow to accomplish the yearly needs of the office, using project managementskills to provide leadership to the team
  • Lead therecruiting efforts of the residency program, organizing and attendingrecruiting events during the season (November through January), as well asensuring the program meets all requirements for dealing with applicants and thematch process, and independently prescreening the large number of applications received
  • Negotiatecontracts with outside venues for recruiting events and other residency events,adhering to all university policies
  • Provide advice and oversight to 13Internal Medicine fellowship programs, particularly with regard to accreditingagency requirements and rules, including UNM GME regulations

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience 2 of which are supervisory level experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Bachelors degree
  • 5 years of manager experience
  • Experience/Knowledge of Graduate MedicalEducation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse community
  • Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management principles and procedures
