Position Title: Meat Department Manager

Reports To: Store Manager

Job Objective:

The Meat Department Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Meat Department, including but not limited to, cutting and packaging meat. This position will uphold company standards and policies throughout all areas of the store (inside and outside), remaining aware of customer needs, and monitoring and ensuring fast, accurate, and friendly service at cash registers and on the retail floor. This position is responsible for ensuring the meat cases are well-stocked with fresh, high-quality meat and poultry products for our customers. They receive and stock products, cut, wrap, weigh, price, and attractively merchandise meat department products. They ensure proper inventory control and product rotation to maximize product freshness and availability, while minimizing waste. They assist customers with special requests and answer questions about our meat products and services. This position will work with equipment such as meat saws, slicers, wrapping machines, and knives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all applicable state and federal regulations regarding cleanliness and preparation of meat.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and resolve customer complaints or issues.
  • Assist in training new employees and monitor performance, providing coaching when needed.
  • Protect store assets by being aware of security processes and being alert and aware of the behavior of people in the store.
  • Must be available to cover shifts as needed.
  • Inform supervisor of equipment breakdown or adjustments required.
  • Merchandising shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.
  • Minimize out-of-stock and overstock to ensure fresh merchandise.
  • Manage and track inventory levels to maintain gross margin.
  • Receive and unload incoming shipments and price products to ensure product quality, protection and rotation in cases and cooler.
  • Responsible for product date management.
  • Managing and participating in ordering, tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.
  • Maintain and develop Staples Enterprises, Inc's corporate image and reputation via ethical activities, confidentiality, and great customer service.
  • Continuous improvement through self-development and educational training and attend all training sessions required by law and the Company.

Qualifications of the Position:

  • Previous meat cutting experience preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and Holidays
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to resolve issues effectively.
  • Physically able to perform light to medium lifting (50 lbs.), pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and walking.
  • Ability to stand for several hours at a time.
  • Frequent use of hands to handle products, objects, tools, or controls and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions and walk-in coolers and freezers frequently.
  • Ability to handle raw food products.
  • Ability to work with nuts and other allergens.
