Job description

Organization: Today's Harvest is a free market that provides fresh produce, meat, dairy, and bakery items we rescue each day from local grocery stores, farms, and other partners. This position will support our Today’s Harvest Maplewood market. The market is a program of Open Cupboard, which operates various programs improving food access in the East Metro.
 
Position: The Assistant Manager will support operations at Today’s Harvest, assisting with all aspects of market operation including customer service, restocking of food, and volunteer management. Fluency in Hmong, Karen, or Spanish languages is preferred. 
 
Hours:. There is some flexibility with this position, and it is expected to average between 24-40 hours/week. The preferred schedule would be 10am-6pm on some weekdays and from 8:30am-1:30pm on Saturdays. Saturday availability is required.
Reports to: Today’s Harvest Market Director
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Manager will:
- Greet and assist customers
- Train and manage volunteers who are helping to restock the market
- Assess and manage inventory and communicate needs to other team members when inventory runs low
- Assist with market operations, including market restocking, sorting of food, etc.

This is a key role in our growing Today’s Harvest program, and the position will join a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
 
Qualifications & Experience:
- Ability to communicate, motivate, and relate effectively to a wide variety of Individuals
- Retail or grocery experience a plus
- Bilingual Hmong/English, Karen/English, or Spanish/English is preferred
- Adaptability, flexibility, and ability to see change as an opportunity rather than an obstacle
- Volunteer training experience is a plus
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Physical ability to load and unload boxes and bags on a regular basis, up to 50 pounds, and be on your feet for long periods of time
- Ability to assess needs and communicate to the team any adjustments that need to be made throughout each shift
