What Is a Marketing Operations Manager?

A marketing operations manager supervises marketing department staff to maintain productivity and smooth operations. Unlike a marketing project manager who focuses on a particular marketing campaign, a marketing operations manager oversees the overall marketing department and ensures the staff meets their goals. Job duties include evaluating market trends to develop new marketing strategies, creating department goals, delegating project tasks to employees, and training new marketing employees. Qualifications for this career include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, business administration, or a related field, extensive marketing experience, and leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Marketing Operations Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Marketing Operations Manager, you need expertise in marketing strategy, data analysis, project management, and a bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field. Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (like HubSpot or Marketo), CRM systems, and analytics tools is typically required, along with certifications such as Salesforce or Google Analytics. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help drive cross-functional collaboration and process optimization. These skills ensure seamless marketing execution, data-driven decision-making, and alignment between marketing initiatives and overall business objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by Marketing Operations Managers when aligning marketing technology with organizational goals?

Marketing Operations Managers often encounter challenges when ensuring that marketing technology stacks effectively support broader business objectives. Integrating new tools with existing systems, maintaining data accuracy across platforms, and securing buy-in from cross-functional teams can be complex. Additionally, staying updated with rapidly evolving marketing technologies while balancing cost and utility requires ongoing attention. Successful Marketing Operations Managers proactively communicate with stakeholders, regularly evaluate tech performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement to address these hurdles.

Job description

Overview
FMI is seeking a Marketing Operations & Digital Manager with deep HubSpot expertise who can effectively straddle both marketing operations and digital marketing responsibilities to lead the execution, optimization and operational management of our digital marketing ecosystem.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on-someone who can oversee integrated digital campaigns while also managing the systems, workflows and reporting infrastructure that support lead generation and pipeline growth. This role requires strong hands-on experience with HubSpot, including workflows, lead scoring, segmentation, nurture automation and Salesforce integration.
The role will work closely with internal stakeholders and external agency partners to ensure campaigns, attribution and lead management processes are aligned and optimized across the funnel.
All applicants for employment must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.
Responsibilities
Digital Strategy & Campaign Management
  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies aligned with FMI's growth objectives.
  • Coordinate integrated campaigns across paid media, social, email and web.
  • Partner closely with FMI's Content Strategist to align campaign execution, messaging, thought leadership content and audience engagement strategies across channels.
  • Collaborate with external agencies managing paid media campaigns across LinkedIn, Google and other digital channels.
  • Ensure campaign strategy, targeting, landing pages, nurture flows and reporting are aligned and optimized for performance.
  • Continuously refine messaging, channel mix and campaign performance based on data and market insights.

Marketing Automation, Rev Ops & Lead Management
  • Own and optimize FMI's marketing automation platform (HubSpot) to support campaign execution, lead nurture and lifecycle management.
  • Build and maintain workflows, lead scoring models, audience segmentation and nurture programs.
  • Partner closely with Revenue Operations and business development teams to ensure alignment between marketing systems, lead management processes and sales workflows.
  • Ensure accurate integration and alignment between HubSpot and Salesforce, including campaign tracking, lead routing, lifecycle stages and attribution reporting.
  • Maintain database health, data hygiene and operational consistency across marketing systems.
  • Support ongoing optimization of lead management, funnel progression and reporting infrastructure across marketing and Rev Ops functions.

Analytics & Performance Optimization
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting to measure campaign effectiveness, lead progression and pipeline contribution.
  • Analyze campaign and funnel performance to identify trends, optimization opportunities and operational gaps.
  • Translate marketing, CRM and campaign performance data into actionable insights and recommendations for leadership, business development and Rev Ops teams.
  • Support ongoing testing and optimization efforts across campaigns, landing pages, nurture flows and audience targeting.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate across marketing, content, Revenue Operations, business development, leadership and external agency partners to align priorities and outcomes.
  • Stay current on digital marketing trends, AI tools, marketing automation best practices and emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in digital marketing, demand generation or marketing operations within a B2B environment.
  • Strong hands-on HubSpot expertise is required, including workflows, lead scoring, segmentation and Salesforce integration; experience with other marketing automation platforms alone is not sufficient for this role.
  • Experience managing campaign performance reporting; strong analytical and reporting skills with the ability to translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience building nurture programs, lifecycle automation and lead management processes.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in professional services, consulting, or other complex B2B industries
  • Experience with reporting dashboards, attribution tracking, and marketing automation
  • Familiarity with AI tools and emerging digital marketing technologies

Base salary range is $90k-$95k plus annual bonus.
