Job description

Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Overview: The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is the hiring manager for a team of manufacturing and controls engineers as well as the facility maintenance team. The scope of the position is to provide manufacturing engineering management toward new product launch, current product and other continual improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and drive the vision for the continual improvement of manufacturing processes, equipment, automation and technology championing the introduction of new ideas that will improve EHS, product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Direct supervisory responsibility for the manufacturing engineering department team (engineers, maintenance technicians) including selection, hiring, training, performance evaluations and work schedule.
  • Responsible for managing manufacturing capital projects, improving all areas of manufacturing. On time, within budget, minimal disruption to production or office functioning, aesthetics consistent with the brand.
  • Subject-matter expert for seat assembly processes and controls, being knowledgeable in areas such as: safety component traceability, critical characteristics control, fastener torque control and recording, assembly poke-yokes, trim cover sewing and finessing, and EOL testing.
  • Identify process, equipment and manning needs to support new business costing and quoting activities. Provide feasibility and DFAM feedback.
  • Overall budget responsibility for the assembly tooling and equipment, spending to the launch budget. Responsible for departmental spending to Capex budgets.
  • Process owner for manufacturing engineering department BOS (Business Operating System) processes, procedures, work instructions, standards, and forms. Create and revise BOS documents to support the responsibilities of the department.
  • Lead the performance of manufacturing engineering APQP elements and tasks for Product Development Plan gates and events.
  • Supports maintaining IATF16949:2016 and ISO14001:2015 accreditation.
  • Develop, with the Purchasing team, strategic partnership relationships with equipment, service and facility vendors, coordinating the associated outsourced activities.
  • Member of the safety committee, performing regular workplace inspections, including participating in the 5S / safety walks, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the safety goals.
  • Report manufacturing engineering department KPI's and their related corrective/preventive actions to leadership. Execute department performance by having YOY improvements on KPIs.
  • Active member of the Operations leadership team supporting monthly, quarterly, annual reviews and budget setting requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in manufacturing engineering or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience in automotive manufacturing or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years proven experience managing / leading both Engineering and Maintenance Personnel.
