About the role
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for continuous improvement to ensure the timely introduction and production of quality, cost effective products. In addition, they manage and lead the divisions' Cost Reduction Program. Provides daily leadership, management, and guidance to Manufacturing Engineering staff.
Responsibilities
  • Works with manufacturing engineering staff in the support of programs to assure that new designs can be manufactured cost effectively, designs are reviewed for manufacturability, adequate oversight of pilot production of new products and assisting with the development of manufacturing-related inputs to new product teams
  • Leads manufacturing engineering staff in the make/buy studies for products; in the preparation and maintenance of procedures and instructions in an ISO environment; research, development, and documentation of practices, processes, manufacturing flow, facilities and tooling development necessary to support the manufacture of product in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Assists in incorporating automation equipment into the production process with automation engineering. Evaluates and recommends processes or tools that will make the manufacture of products more efficient and with improved product quality.
  • Leads the development of manufacturing test systems (both hardware and software).
  • In partnership with the Quality Organization, provide technical solutions to factory or customer issues.
  • Assures that all schedules are adhered to and improved where possible, work is prioritized and that adequate resources are made available to support such schedules.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to production work teams.
  • Leads overall technical strategy with assistance of the divisional leadership team with the development of department direction and plans to carry out overall operations plans and functions. Actively participates in strategic and tactical planning.
  • Establishes annual "smart" goals for personnel in support of growth and meeting departmental objectives
  • Assures that engineering staff is fully cognizant of methods for establishing cost standards, and assures that costing is entered into the system per established methodology
  • Counsels, coaches and mentors staff towards overall development and growth
  • Assures that departmental training tools are in place and that periodic training is scheduled and held as appropriate

  • Understanding of manufacturing and assembly/production processes with the ability to reduce complex engineering problems into simplified form to educate others

  • Decisiveness - Ability to make quick, informed decisions to help the team move forward
  • Direction - Ability to train and direct employees to encourage them to complete assigned tasks within given deadlines
  • Influence - Ability to affect the behaviors, attitudes, and opinions of others, which includes persuasion and inspiration of others to follow a certain direction or adopt specific behaviors, often through leadership
  • Problem Solver - Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve issues that arise to maintain smooth operations and achieve strategic goals

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Industrial/Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in an operational environment in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. Experience in manual assembly operations a plus.
  • Manufacturing experience in an ISO environment preferred
  • Minimum 3 years engineering management experience required
