Job description

Position Summary

The Assistant General Counsel will work with the firm’s General Counsel in supporting the firm’s legal needs. The position is available in Long Beach, CA; Walnut Creek, CA; San Francisco, CA; Bellevue, WA; or Portland, OR. Some locations may offer remote or hybrid work arrangements depending on business needs. Discuss options with the recruiter.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the General Counsel in advising and representing the firm in a variety of legal and contractual matters.
  • Provide legal guidance on client matters, including disputes, claims, compliance with professional standards, regulations, and licensing issues.
  • Advise partners and employees on the preparation of client engagement letters, master services agreements, responses to requests for proposals, subcontractor agreements, Kovel agreements, non‑disclosure agreements, SaaS agreements, and other client or third‑party agreements.
  • Manage subpoena compliance and other court‑related matters.
  • Collaborate with Facilities to review and advise on leases, renewals, and other real estate documents across the country.
  • Protect the firm’s intellectual property by advising on IP protection fundamentals, enforcement, and coordinating with outside counsel on complex matters.
  • Investigate and handle employment‑related legal issues.
  • Oversee the contracts/legal team to ensure timely resolution of requests and achievement of KPIs and goals set by management.
  • Handle other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor with 5‑8 years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney at a law firm and/or in‑house corporate attorney.
  • In good standing with the Bar of at least one U.S. state.
  • Detail‑oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify issues, strategically weigh risks, and draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a variety of contracts.
  • Strong legal research experience dealing with nuanced issues across multiple practice areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues to non‑legal stakeholders clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, keeping management informed of matters requiring attention.
  • Interest in a long‑term role within a growing legal department.
  • Litigation experience required; professional liability defense experience preferred but not required.
