Job description

Position Summary

The Assistant General Counsel will work with the firm’s General Counsel in supporting the firm’s legal needs. The firm has one available position located in Long Beach, CA; Walnut Creek, CA; San Francisco, CA; Bellevue, WA; or Portland, OR, with some roles open to remote or hybrid arrangements.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the General Counsel in advising and representing the firm in legal and contractual matters, including client disputes, compliance, licensing, and professional standards.
  • Provide legal guidance to firm professionals on client matters, including disputes, claims and compliance.
  • Draft and review firm client engagement letters, master services agreements, RFP responses, subcontractor agreements, Kovel agreements, NDAs, SaaS agreements, and other third‑party contracts.
  • Manage subpoena compliance and other court‑related matters independently.
  • Collaborate with Facilities to review and advise on new leases, renewals, and other real‑estate documents nationwide.
  • Protect the firm’s intellectual property, advising on IP fundamentals, enforcement, and coordination with outside counsel on complex matters.
  • Investigate and handle employment‑related legal issues.
  • Manage contracts/legal team to ensure timely resolution of requests and meet KPIs/goals set by management.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.
Background and Skills
  • Juris Doctor with 5–8 years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in‑house corporate counsel.
  • Must be in good standing with the Bar of at least one U.S. state.
  • Detail‑oriented with excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills to anticipate issues and strategically weigh risks.
  • Proven experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on a variety of contracts, including client, vendor and third‑party agreements.
  • Strong legal research experience across diverse practice areas.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to convey complex legal issues concisely to non‑legal stakeholders.
  • Independent and team‑oriented, keeping management apprised of matters requiring attention.
  • Interest in a long‑term role within a growing legal department.
  • Litigation experience required.
  • Professional liability defense experience preferred but not required.
