A well-established nonprofit legal aid organization is seeking attorneys to join its Consumer Advocacy practice. We welcome applications from newly admitted attorneys as well as attorneys with prior litigation, consumer law, legal services, or related experience.

Whether you are beginning your legal career or looking to transition into meaningful public interest work, this position offers the opportunity to develop and strengthen your litigation skills through direct client representation, courtroom advocacy, and mentorship from experienced attorneys.

Position Overview

This full-time position begins as a four-month engagement (35 hours per week), with a strong potential to transition into a permanent Staff Attorney role.

Responsibilities

Attorneys in this role will:

  • Interview and advise clients
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and legal documents
  • Conduct legal research
  • Prepare matters for hearings
  • Advocate for clients in court
  • Work closely with supervising attorneys and mentors


Qualifications

  • Admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey
  • Strong writing and oral advocacy skills
  • Interest in consumer advocacy, litigation, public interest law, or community-based practice

Prior legal services or nonprofit experience is helpful but not required. Comprehensive training and mentorship are provided. Attorneys with prior litigation, consumer law, or related experience are encouraged to apply and will be highly valued.


Compensation & Growth Opportunity

This temporary engagement pays the equivalent of approximately $70,000–$79,000 annually, depending on experience.


Attorneys transitioning into permanent Staff Attorney positions begin at approximately $79,000+, with comprehensive benefits and salary progression based on experience.
