Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Director of Development



PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progressagainst goals with focus on Events, Raiseras Edge (Database), YoungProfessionals, and Individual Major Gifts. Develop and implement a fundraisingplan for these areas to meet operating budget needs on an annual basis as wellas long term.  Manage the teamresponsible for these areas.  Managevolunteer leaders that serve on committees and councils that support theseefforts as assigned by the Vice President of Development.

Key Roles:

Leadership/Management

A        Provide strategy, direction and oversight inevents, Young Professionals, and individual major gifts to reach developmentgoals and strategies.

A        Manage the daily activities of implementation ofthe development plan around events, Young Professionals, and individual majorgifts.

A        Develop fundraising strategies that align cashinflows and outflows to minimize financing of working capital.

A        Manage and report pledge receivable status andminimize collection timing and write-offs as it pertains to special events andindividual giving.

A        Lead and manage development staff for events,donor stewardship, and annual fund giving.

A        Identify opportunities to build public awarenessof BGCGH initiatives, services, and programs.

Strategic Planning

A        Work with the Vice President of Development todevelop a comprehensive annual fundraising plan to support operating budget andannual cash requirements.

A        Provide oversight to staff that research andidentify high net worth individuals and event sponsors to cultivate, solicitand steward.

A        Work with Vice President of Development toestablish forecasts and prepare evaluations of fundraising potential fordevelopment activities by identifying and rating prospects, with specialattention given to those prospects having the highest potential.

Individual Major Gifts/Annual Fund

A        Responsible for the successfulidentification, solicitation, and closing of all individual major gifts usingan agreed upon strategy.

A        Work with the leadership to plan, arrange andorganize strategies for board members to participate in solicitation of majordonors.

A        Work closely with CEO, VP of Development andBoard Members to ensure donor relationships are managed and leveragedeffectively to increase the likelihood of giving.

A        Create giving programs to ensure highly effectiveannual programs including monthly giving and giving societies.

A        Develop and execute a plan to expand overallfundraising efforts to help build individual major gift pipeline.

A        Ensure best strategies for donor cultivation,stewardship, and recognition are being implemented to increase giving.

Serve on Database Team

A        Serve on the team that oversees the Raiseras EdgeDatabase for the organization.

A        Work closely with Finance year-round to reconcileRaiseras Edge and Finance weekly, monthly and yearly.

A        Ensure that database manager is processing andtracking all donor pledges and payments.

A        Work with database manager to make sure thatacknowledgement letters to donors are generated in a timely manner.

 

Special Events

A        Oversee staff responsible for the successfulimplementation of key events for BGCGH.

A        Ensure events are engaging to participants andresult in growth of overall event revenue.

A        Ensure events meet revenue goals and expensebudgets.

A        Work with event staff to recruit businesssponsors to generate event revenue, including maintaining existing sponsors andattracting new sponsors.

A        Work with event staff to cultivate eventattendees to move them from event only donors to organizational donors.

Manage LeadershipVolunteers

A        Provide oversight and direction for leadershipvolunteers supporting development efforts including special event committees, andarea councils

A        Recruit chairs and committee members for eacharea

A        Clearly define roles and responsibilities of eachcommittee

A        Responsible for one of three area Councils:Galveston, Wharton and Ft. Bend

Young Professionals (YP) Group

A        Work with YP Board Chair to develop and implementa year-round strategy.

A        Plan and implement board meetings, events, andvolunteer opportunities for YP Board and members.

A        Identify ways to enhance overall YP experience,which includes, but is not limited to events, volunteer opportunities,fundraising, and membership growth.

 

 

Areas of Responsibility/Oversight of staff who perform the followingfunctions:

A        Stewardship plan and implementation.

A        Volunteer management oversight a" specifically asit relates to events, young professionals program and individual major gifts.

A        Special Event oversight - planning, coordinationand implementation.

A        Young Professionals oversight

A        Understand and articulate the mission,objectives, policies, programs, procedures, principles and practices of theBoys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston.

A        Maintain and utilize the Raisers Edge donordatabase software fully.

A        Manage administrative and operational systems andduties to:

A        Track fundraising income and other developmentreports

A        Recognize contributions with acknowledgementletters and special recognition events

A        Performs other related duties andresponsibilities as required or as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain oral and written contact with the Vice President of Development,Board of Directors at the direction of the VP of Development, Club managementand staff, and volunteers to exchange information, seek and give assistance,and direction.

External: At the direction ofthe VP of Development, maintain oral and written contact with otheragencies, business leaders, community groups, boards of directors of suchorganizations, and the media for the purpose of exchanging information andideas and for the purpose of fundraising.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

A        Bacheloras degree from an accredited college oruniversity.

A        Seven plus years proven experience in resourcedevelopment a" including grant writing, reporting, major gift solicitation andfundraising event planning.

A        Three to five years experience managing adevelopment team.

A        Excellent communication skills, both written andoral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and buildlong-term relationships.

A        Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who canpositively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising.

A        Financial planning and business acumen.

A        Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel,Power Point, Outlook and Raiseras Edge.

A        Knowledge of how to manage multiple fundraisingprojects, events and campaigns.

A        Tangible experience of successfully solicitinglarge grants, major donations and cultivating existing donor relationships overtime.

A        Demonstrated ability to work independently andexecute successful projects.
