Requirements

Summary of Functions: The Director of Business Development is responsible for identifying and developing new market initiatives, assessing market opportunities, analyzing new business deals, and leading product innovation initiatives. This executive-level role requires a strategic thinker with a passion for food innovation, consumer trends, and building strong relationships that drive sustainable growth. The position will manage financial feasibility studies, develop proposals for new business opportunities, negotiate contracts and develop new business proposals.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of business development activities, licensing requirements, deal structuring, leading or supporting agreement negotiations, and the closing of the transaction.
  • Work with regional sales leaders on the development of a comprehensive business development strategy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional managers to assess the feasibility of opportunities or needed research and development.
  • Maximize and optimize operational capacity by investigating and coordinating added-value business opportunities.
  • Locate or propose potential business deals by contacting potential partners and discovering and exploring opportunities.
  • Know and understand competition. 
  • Monitor competitive intelligence by keeping up to date on market trends, industry data, competitors, and opportunities.
  • Review weekly, monthly, and quarterly business development objectives and results for target accounts and where improvement is needed.
  • Partner with Marketing, Sales, and Operations to align innovation with brand strategy and production capabilities.
  • Anticipate compliance concerns, market changes/shifts, and industry standards.
  • Develop strong working relationships with customers, brokers, distributors, and industry stakeholders.
  • Attend sales meetings, food shows, customer events, etc.
  • Focus on opportunities to maximize profit while reducing associated cost and company risk.
  • Present growth and innovation strategies to executive leadership and advisory board.

Organizational Relationships:

The position reports to the EVP of Supply Chain & Business Development


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in CPG sales, business development, product innovation, or strategy within food manufacturing, CPG or dairy.
  • Experience in US domestic and international dairy markets.
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and launching successful products.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze potential opportunities.
  • Ability to learn and use CRM tools for planning and forecasting sales growth, leads, and analysis.
  • Proactive, self-driven communicator.
  • Strong negotiating, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully interface with senior management and employees at all levels.
