Summary
The VP of Business Development is responsible for the overall planning and strategy for a BURG or an assigned market segment. S/he functions as a subject matter expert in business development. The VP of Business Development interfaces frequently with customers and potential customers to influence and persuade customers to see Baker as the company of choice. Finally, the VP is responsible for the overall profit and loss related to business development.
Roles and Responsibilities
The VP of Business Development will perform the following duties in a safe, productive, and effective manner:
  • Oversees the development of plans, forecast sales and budgets to achieve market growth
  • Completes risk/ benefits analyses
  • Responsible for communicating and obtaining approval of the business development plan from the Executive Committee
  • Ensures individual Burgs execute their business plans
  • Maintains an external leadership presence with industry influencers and promotes Baker's value in the marketplace
  • Determines which clients are a fit to Baker, and then pursues and develops presentations to meet project/client's needs and to establish relationships
  • Serves as the highest point of contact with clients
  • Keeps Executive Committee apprised of business development leads
  • Analyzes global customer satisfaction metrics
  • Supervises, trains, evaluates, and develops direct reports; ensures support managers within area of responsibility also supervise, train, evaluate and develop their direct reports
  • Provides guidance, direction, coaching, and support to direct reports to maximize individual and overall department performance; ensures support managers within area of responsibility also provide guidance, direction, etc. to their direct reports
    • Responsible for holding timely performance appraisals and progress reviews
    • Assists direct reports and staff in developing short and long-term goals that align with department and Company mission and strategy
    • Ensures direct reports and staff receive appropriate training that aligns with career development plans; training may be remedial, "maintenance", or geared to promotion
  • Takes appropriate action to develop direct reports including, but not limited to, preparing and monitoring career development plans, promotions, demotions, lateral moves, corrective action, and progressive discipline ensures support managers also take appropriate action with their staffs
  • Conducts department staff meetings and participates in developing initiatives, goals, objectives, systems, policies, and procedures
  • Ensures that staff receive timely and appropriate compensatio

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 15 years' related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction engineering industry, specializing in sales, marketing, and related construction business development processes
  • Proficient with Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
