Purpose of Business & Community Development Manager Role
Under general direction, the Community & Business Development Manager is responsible for developing and carrying out engaging strategies that will allow NDI New Mexico (NDI-NM) to be a visible and impactful community and new business development partner. Responsible for driving forward strategic operational initiatives designed to increase and sustain real-time understanding of local business development and community building opportunities. The work of this role is directly tied to the organization’s ability to execute on related over-arching planning and initiatives and requires the ability to collaborate effectively across the design and communication of business and community development projects that serve to propel high-level, cross-departmental, revenue-generating, and mission-centric goals and increase organizational impact.
Primary Responsibilities
Business, Partnership, and Community Development – Hiland Theater
• Support the overarching NDI-NM operational planning by developing and implementing a comprehensive, multi-year plan for increasing and sustaining business and neighborhood development efforts building from the strategic Activating Hiland initiative.
• Serve on and drive effort, information flow, and collaboration with members of the internal Activating Hiland staff committee.
• Represent the Activating Hiland initiative to surrounding businesses and neighborhood activity inclusive of engaging commercial and residential developers, local, small, and chain/retail business owners and operators, community-based organizations and associations, local governing bodies, and co-occurring city improvement and engagement projects located in proximity to the Hiland Theater.
• Pursue high-value in-person and online group and association invitations, affiliations, memberships, and activities that serve to advance the Activating Hiland initiative and business development goals.
• Evaluate the local community’s understanding of NDI-NM and the Activating Hiland initiative. Identify the key local business development and neighborhood/community engagement partners and untapped opportunities.
• Build the business development and community partnership opportunity pipeline. Qualify opportunities, evaluate fit with NDI-NM mission and Activating Hiland initiative objectives. Develop resulting opportunity and action plans.
• Perform supporting local market research including routine review of local print and online news, local advertising and social media, and attendance at public, civic, and community events surrounding the Hiland Theater.

• Act on qualified business and community development opportunities. Get “in the door”, listen, and educate on NDI-NM and Activating Hiland and/or make appropriate internal hand-offs synergizing approach with NDI-NM day-to-day operations, cross-departmental workflows, internal resources, and established timetables.
• Generate compelling presentations inclusive of Activating Hiland goals, NDI-NM facts-at-a-glance, program enrollment and impact statistics, and the value prospect of working with NDI-NM and the Activating Hiland initiative.
• Coordinate informed business development proposals and partnership presentation logistics. Identify and enlist the appropriate NDI-NM team members in partner engagement, both internally and externally.
• Create and use data insights to report on localized patterns, roadblocks, opportunities, gaps, ROI, and risks. Support the related internal operational process improvements, as needed.
• Organize and manage additional ROI-centric business development and community-building gatherings, events, workshops, and meetings, both virtually and in-person, as needed, to foster an increasing sense of shared space and community and encourage active participation at numerous levels at the Hiland Theater.
• Participate in increasing sales of rental space at the Hiland Theater by aligning Activating Hiland initiative work and communications with rental space target and revenue goals.
• Routinely ensure that measurable goals and development plans for Hiland Theater business and community development growth that are in alignment with NDI New Mexico’s Long-Range Strategic Plan, and the Executive Director’s Annual strategic initiatives.
Internal Operations & Cross-Departmental Collaboration
• Create cross-departmental efficiencies, synergies, and cost savings by driving an increase in coordination and integration of related communications and activities.
• Work closely with the Director of Operations, Production Manager, Technical Directors, and Program Directors to facilitate smooth integration and alignment of new business development and community development projects and planning.
• Partner with Artistic and Finance team members to evaluate, align, and implement mutually beneficial and cost-effective growth and business development strategies.
• Drive ongoing collaboration with NDI New Mexico’s Marketing and Advancement team members, perform effective opportunity hand-offs, and align strategies and activity in and around the Hiland Theater.
• Build upon relationships with new and existing donors, families, volunteers, and key stakeholders living and working near the Hiland Theater location, conduct external surveys and informal interviews to measure effectiveness of business and community development efforts.
• Devise and manage well-coordinated published content aimed at engaging community members, driving up organizational lead capture and conversions, strengthening local area family and student program awareness, and indirectly increasing enrollment numbers and overall NDI-NM participation rates.
• Actively connect the appropriate NDI-NM staff and stakeholders with qualified key business and community developers and representatives. Attend local events, presentations, and other engagements suggested by colleagues that will serve to amplify and propel business development goals and outcomes.
• Evaluate new partner relationships for possible volunteer, pro-bono, advisory, committee, or board service and refer them up to the Executive Director, Senior Management Team, and/or Activating Hiland Committee.
Business, Neighborhood, and Community Development – Other Locations
• In time, may evaluate and/or integrate the work, goals, and outcomes of the Activating Hiland initiative and the Albuquerque Hiland Theater business and community development efforts, in part or in full, with the ongoing operations at the NDI-NM Santa Fe Dance Barns and surrounding Santa Fe area.
• May devise or guide on best practices, discoveries, and good process for integrating or adding on business and community development activity

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
• Applicable Bachelor’s or related associate’s degree; or equivalent number of years of experience in Business Development, Community Relations, and strategic Project Management experience, preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant experience with driving business development strategies, external relations and/or community partnerships with a regional/community-centric organization such as a non-profit, creative arts organization, or start-up organization.
• 3+ years of direct Project Management experience and/or related certification, highly preferred.
• Experience using and maintaining CRM, Project Management, and/or enterprise-wide workflow and moves management tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Monday.com, Asana, or similar.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and Outlook, preferred.
• Highly collaborative and process-driven work/project management style.
• Entrepreneurial spirit, creative problem-solving skills, and excellent work ethic and follow through a must.
• Exceptional listening and verbal and written communication skills.
