Job description

The Senior Manager- Information Technology is responsible for development of the IT strategy, functional execution of department goals and the operational direction of the Department. They manage significant budgets, develop and implement IT policies and drive initiatives to enhance system performance and security. They collaborate with senior leaders to address critical IT challenges and opportunities. Problems faced are often complex and require extensive investigation and analysis. They have the ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches, and have the ability to communicate and influence executive leadership and other department management.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily IT operations, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of systems.
  • Establish departmental goals and execute short- and mid-term IT and support strategies aligned with business and organizational priorities to drive operational excellence.
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, including operating and capital expenditures, and align technology investments with business priorities.
  • Establish and enforce IT governance frameworks, policies, and internal controls; ensure audit readiness and compliance with regulatory and data security requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans, including defined recovery time and recovery point objectives.
  • Implement and manage IT service management processes, including ticketing, incident, problem, and change management; define and monitor service level agreements and performance metrics.
  • Own and lead the enterprise cybersecurity program, including ongoing risk assessments, incident response, user awareness training, and enforcement of security policies.
  • Manage and support enterprise infrastructure including LAN/WAN, internet, intranet, cloud environments, and network systems.
  • Lead planning and implementation of system upgrades, enhancements, and technology rollouts across the organization.
  • Oversee deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle management of IT assets including servers, endpoints, mobile devices, and software.
  • Ensure effective management of Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage technology vendors and service providers, ensuring cost-effective, high-quality service delivery and alignment with business needs.
  • Oversee, and provide, IT support for vessels and remote locations, including travel as needed to ensure operational continuity.
  • Partner with business leaders to understand technology needs and deliver scalable, innovative solutions.
  • Lead the administration and optimization of collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and conference room technologies.
  • Provide regular reporting to executive leadership on IT performance, risks, and key initiatives; translate technical issues into business impact and actionable insights.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of IT support professionals, including performance management, coaching, and workforce planning.
  • On-call rotation required.

Minimum Educational and Job Qualifications:

  • 12 years of experience in IT support, infrastructure, or related roles with progressive levels of responsibility and leadership of systems, teams and projects.
  • 5 years of experience in a leadership or managerial capacity overseeing IT teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent certifications and experience.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex IT environments and enterprise systems.
  • Expertise in Microsoft technologies including Azure AD and Microsoft 365.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders.
  • Experience in, and knowledge of, the maritime and inland maritime industries preferred.

Physical Capabilities:

  • Carry, push, pull or move 10 pounds regularly, or up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to sit up to 8 hours per day.
