Job Description
Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. We also believe in providing an ongoing investment in our faculty and staff to deepen their skills and competencies to serve the full range of our student population.
The Reynolds Libraries seeks an innovative and tech-savvy Lead Digital Services Librarian to guide our digital initiatives and elevate our online presence. The Lead Digital Services Librarian will coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure continued access to subscribed electronic resources with the overall goal of guiding the Libraries' online presence and digital resources. Primary responsibilities of this position will be managing and troubleshooting the library's digital resources and services including: managing and maintaining an engaging and intuitive library website for a diverse user community; researching, developing and implementing emerging technologies to enhance library services; managing the library databases; and updating electronic resource records in the integrated library system (ILS). Engaging online learners in information literacy is another important focus of this position. As a member of the library's full-time professional faculty, these duties are an expectation of the job: reference, instruction, collection development, including selection and deselection, liaison duties, shared branch management and supervision of part-time professional librarians.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in library science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited school.
  • Experience in managing electronic resources within a library setting.
  • Experience in or aptitude for managing and maintaining websites.
  • Knowledge in web accessibility standards, responsive design, information architecture, content management systems and website best practices and standards.
  • Experience using integrated library systems, preferably Ex Libris Alma/Primo.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating training and support for library staff and other employees on using electronic resources and new technologies.
  • Experience in creating instructional videos and documentation on using electronic resources.
  • Experience with creating or updating LibGuides.
  • Demonstrated strong potential for leadership with college staff and the ability to guide and execute team projects.

Additional Considerations
  • Two or more years of professional library experience, preferably in an academic library setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with database vendors to negotiate electronic resource license agreements and resolve technical issues as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to co-manage a library branch by sharing responsibility and decision-making.
