POSITION SUMMARY:
The Library/Media Specialist at Danbury High School is a dynamic educator who collaborates with staff and students to promote digital literacy, research skills, and a love of reading across a large and diverse student population. The ideal candidate will foster a flexible, inclusive learning environment that supports academic excellence and innovation through the use of library/media resources and instructional technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide access to and maintain a robust collection of print, digital, and multimedia resources aligned with the high school curriculum
  • Instruct students in research, digital citizenship, media literacy, and effective use of information technologies
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-design and deliver integrated lessons that enhance student learning through media and technology
  • Support curriculum development by providing instructional materials and resource guidance
  • Promote a reading culture and support student choice through library programs and events
  • Manage daily operations of the DHS library, including circulation, cataloging, inventory, and budgeting
  • Curate and manage digital tools and databases, and support their use among staff and students
  • Provide training and ongoing support to teachers on integrating instructional technology
  • Maintain an engaging, organized, and safe library environment that meets the academic and social-emotional needs of students
  • Monitor trends in instructional technology and educational resources to enhance library services
  • Encourage ethical and responsible use of information and technology
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and professional development aligned with district goals

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Strong knowledge of library/media center management and digital resource curation
  • Proficiency with educational technology tools, platforms, and databases
  • Understanding of adolescent literacy development and secondary research skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with high school faculty across content areas
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage a large, diverse student population in a high-volume learning environment
  • Experience supporting project-based learning and interdisciplinary instruction

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Active 062 Library Media Specialist Certification from the Connecticut State Department of Education
  • Master's Degree in Library Science or related field preferred
  • Experience working in a high school library/media setting strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in support of teaching and learning
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Danbury Board of Education may find appropriate
