Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes
 
MAJOR FUNCTION: To train mechanics and management in basic maintenance skills including working safely. 
 
PURPOSE &                 
REASON POSITION EXISTS AND MAGNITUDE OF BUSINESS OPERATION AFFECTED.  USE QUANTITATIVE 
SCOPE                            
MEASURES SUCH AS VOLUME OF SALES, PURCHASES, ASSETS ACCOUNTABLE FOR, ETC. 
  • To instruct new mechanics on how to perform tasks correctly to avoid accidents. 
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: LIST AND DESCRIBE (IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE) THE SPECIFIC TASKS, ASSIGNMENTS, AND/OR FUNCTIONS PERFORMED. 
  • To instruct mechanics on how to perform tasks safely and correctly to avoid accidents. 
  • Insure all maintenance employees are in compliance with and understand safety procedures 
  • Monitor safety performance of all maintenance employees. 
  • Lead maintenance employees through hands on maintenance basic skills training needed for a maintenance employee. 
  • Implement and manage maintenance training program, develop schedules for attendance, and ensure training is being completed 
  • Perform re-training for current maintenance employees that do not know or have displayed signs of lack of understanding of correct procedures. 
  • Perform the following hands-on training courses to new hires in maintenance:  Lock Out/Tag out Procedures, Confined Space entry, Fall Protection use of equipment, Hot Work/Line Break, PIT hands on Training and all other hands-on Safety Training. 
  • Complete the following audits on all maintenance employees, annual lockout tags out audit and machine specific training for all maintenance employees, PIT driving skills, 
  • Daily work tasks are very structured with deviations occurring only when there is no training to perform. 
  • Review lockout tag out procedures annually 
  • Job performance is measured by the Maintenance Engineer and the Safety Manager on criteria such as communication skills and the employee's knowledge of safety policies and procedures.  Other criteria may include knowledge of work, quality of work, initiative and motivation, problem analysis, follow-up and planning and organization. 
WORKING CONDITIONS: 
  • Physical demands of this position include walking and stair climbing. 
        Potential hazards include ammonia, steam, electrical and mechanical hazards. 
        Work area has many slippery floors and is very noisy. 
        Temperature in work area varies depending on which area of plant employee is training in. 
        Employee will typically work 50-60 hours per week Monday - Saturday with some Sunday work if necessary. 
REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: 
        Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalent. 
        College experience helpful, but not directly necessary. 
EXPERIENCE: 
        Minimum 4-6 years background in mechanical/safety disciplines. 
SPECIAL SKILLS: 
        Welding 
        Hydraulics 
        Electrical 
        Mechanical knowledge and ability 
        Strong safety knowledge and background 
        Communication skills 
        First Aid/CPR training 
RELATIONSHIPS:
