Job description

Schaffer's Mill, located in Truckee, CA, is looking for a Part-Time Maintenance & Maintenance Coordination Assistant to help maintain our short-term rental properties. This is a hands-on maintenance position for someone with previous property maintenance or handyman experience who is comfortable working independently, troubleshooting issues, and completing routine maintenance tasks.
The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, mechanically inclined, and takes pride in keeping properties in excellent working condition. This position will involve both performing maintenance work and coordinating larger repairs with outside vendors when needed.
Pay Rate: $25-$30/hr
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance throughout our properties
  • Replace HVAC filters and smoke detector batteries
  • Test smoke detectors, CO detectors, and other safety equipment
  • Replace light bulbs and batteries and address minor electrical issues
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs and troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot and address minor appliance and property issues
  • Complete minor repairs, adjustments, and general handyman work
  • Inspect properties regularly and identify maintenance needs before they become larger problems
  • Assemble, install, or replace basic fixtures, hardware, furniture, and property items
  • Respond to maintenance requests and guest/property issues in a timely manner
  • Coordinate larger repairs with plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, contractors, and other vendors
  • Meet vendors at properties and provide access when needed
  • Follow up on outstanding repairs and ensure work is completed properly
  • Maintain organized records of maintenance performed and supplies needed
  • Keep management informed of significant issues or repairs that require outside assistance
  • Maintain an inventory of commonly used maintenance supplies and communicate when items need to be ordered
  • Assist with seasonal and preventative maintenance throughout the properties

Qualifications
  • Previous property maintenance, facilities maintenance, handyman, or similar hands on maintenance experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of basic home maintenance and repair
  • Comfortable troubleshooting plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, and general property issues
  • Able to safely use common hand and power tools
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality of work
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance needs across several properties
  • Good communication skills and ability to work professionally with guests, owners, employees, and vendors
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using computers, phones, and property management software
  • Escapia experience is a plus
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel between properties as needed

Schedule
Part-time with flexible hours depending on business needs. Schedule may vary based on property maintenance needs and urgent repairs.
